This I an Immense Im-mense gain when It-Is taken Into consideration con-sideration that not more than two years ago the entire population of the Mate did not exceed 80;000 people. "Within the next twelve months a sain of twice this number is looked for In fact, the rush is now on Every train coming Into the Mate both from the east and west brings new people people romintr to Invest their money and assist In still further developing Nevada. The fact that at the present time -JOO.OOrt tons of freight consigned to the southern part of the State are tied up because the combined facilities of the railroads cannot get It to Its destination Is but one exaninle of the growth going on For tho most part this freight consists of lumber, Iron steel, machinery, material that goes to build up With all this great activity going on. but a few places here and there throughout the State are being scratched over. The larger things me yet to come Ten years from now Nevada Ne-vada will be second to none among the-"Western the-"Western States. Washoe County. Washoe county, which Is the empire county of the Sagebrush State, baa without a doubt increased more In prosperity and population within the pnt two years than any other county within the State The railroad has expended ex-pended millions of dollars In carrying out its work of improvement, and has bullded the new town of Sparks This town now has a population of over 2000 people, and Is building rapidly. A year ago tho 6ltc where this town now 6tands was a meadow and cattle grazed there. Now there are many beautiful homes standing, and the assessed as-sessed valuation of the place Is nearlv $1,000,000. The railroad company has erected machine shops equal to any on the coast, and will Increase them within with-in the next few years. It has also constructed con-structed a t-oundhouse of fifty stalls and has made the town Its division point. It is really wonderful to notice the growth of this railroad town w hich has sprung up like magic from a field never thinking that the place would w Ithin a few short months become one of the most prosperous towns In the State. The Southern Pacific company has straightened its line across the State and has given employment to thou- sands of laborers within the borders of the State. At first the mo?! experienced engineers en-gineers were employed in surveying the line, and after their work was completed thousands of men were put to work, and in a short time there was a long line of laborers working on the I new line from the boundarj line between be-tween Utah and Nevada to the city of Reno In western Nevada, All supplies for the employees were purchased within the State, and this Increasi l the business of all the large wholesale stores in the city of Reno, and caused many little stores to bo opened up in this State along the line of the great road. Steel, cement and other material ma-terial was shipped into Nevada to be used In the great work, but everything went toward t ho . Improvement of the Stato, and the Southern Pacific company com-pany can now boast that Its line within with-in the confines of Nevada Is one of the Btralghtest and most substantial In the United States Aside from the great railroad work in Washoe county. Nevada, there boa been an Increase and a new Incentive In every lim4 of Industry and trade. The stock markets are better now than th y have been for years and the stockmen stock-men say that they are now raising more sheep and cattle than they have for a number of years and that the ranges are in a first-class condition. The stockmen are satisfied with their success and are not making an effort nnd claim that it Is a most prosperous yea r. "Within the past year Reno has Increased In-creased about three thousand in population popu-lation and is the distributing point for all parts of Nevada All the freight for the great towns of Ooldfleld and Tono-pah Tono-pah pass through this city and many of the most prominent mining men make this city their headquarters Thousands of dollars have been ex-pi ex-pi i. led In buildings In the city of Reno. The Nevada-Callfornla-Oregon railroad terminates here and promises to be one of the Largest railroads In the State. It is the only outlet for the western part of northern California and southern Oregon Ore-gon and has heavy traffic. The Virginia & Truckee railroad, which Is the only feed for Southern Pacific Pa-cific railroad from the mining districts of Tonopah and Goldfield also terminates termi-nates In Beno and Is doing more busl- ness this year than It did In the most prosperous days of the Comstock Reno an l Sparks ire connected with a new electric railroad and will within another year be nearly one city. In tho western portion of WfUihOG county Is situated the head of the great Iirlgatlon canals. The United States Government Is doing thousands of dollars' dol-lars' worth of work In this portion of the county and is employing thousands of men. The new town of Derby has sprung up as a r.-sult of this great work. Churchill County. Churchill county, which for years was the smallest county In the State In population ha3 taken on a new Ineen-th Ineen-th t and promises to be one of the largest larg-est counties In the State. The Irrigation eanals, which are fed by Lake Tahoe and the TruckCC river will Irrigate over 100 square miles of fertile land In this county and since the Government has thrown the land open to settlers hun-dreda hun-dreda of families are making their way Into the county and taking up homesteads. home-steads. In the meantime liundreds of men are being employed on the work and the county is enjoying gieat prosperity. As a result of the work on the Irrigation canals, the new town of Fallon has Increased twofold In population and is still growing. Aside from the Government work Churchill county has reaped much prosperity from the railroad town and by the Improvement of this great trans-contlnentai trans-contlnentai line the new town of Haxen of five hundred inhabitants has sprung up In the county. Humboldt County. Humboldt countyr although practically practi-cally an agricultural county contains several mining districts, which within the last year have been developed to considerable extent. Ely. a prosperous little town. Is the county seat and principal town of V.'hlte Pine county. Lincoln County. Lincoln county from the northern end of Antelope valley to the far southern south-ern end of Needle?. Cal . Is now undergoing under-going a revival The new railroad, that now traverses the big country from one end to the other giving It direct communication com-munication with the business centers of the world has conduced more than anything any-thing else to this condition. The line means the building up and dtevelopment of every resource In the country, and it has many despite the impression gone out that It is nothing but a wild desolate deso-late waste. Its mineral resources have been proven before now De La Mar Is an example and what De La Mar has done other sections of the county will do Nye County. N'y county Is undoubtedly one of the best known sections of Nevada today. Three years agei It was cut off from railroad and telegraph communication and even wagon roads were a luxury. Toctay ore of the richest aa well as the most prosperous city in the State Is located lo-cated there. It has its Tonopah. the mines of which have already produced almost as much wealth as did the famous fa-mous mines in Virginia City. Ballroad communication han been esrtabllshed The telegraph ami telephone If there; It has Its banks and Its churehea, paved streets, ele trie lights and In fact every comfort obtainable even In a city the Hlze of New York, and those who arc In a position to know say Tonopah and all of Nye county are but started In their march of prosperity . Esmeralda County. ESS me raids ounty Is but another example ex-ample of Nye. Two years ago the same pioneer conditional existed ihere. to- n' It Is trying hardi to outstrip its neighbor. Ooldfleld Is but one camp of the many that have sprung up In this camp. Bullfrog. Columbia. Diamond-field, Diamond-field, Donovanlv llle, Summcrvlllo ami a dozen others have attraeted attention already. Ooldflcld's population Is now estimated at 8( v. hile the- others vary all the way trom a dozen to 2000 fouIs. In. every one of thefo camps bonanzas hav e been uncovered! right at the grass roots. Fortunes have been made in. a few months, by men Vho less than one year ago were penniltw, but strong and willing to work. It's the country of tho men who want to and are willing to work end the more it gets of them the greater will be Its development. Within With-in the next few months the Tonopah railroad will be extended to Goldfield. It already has electric lights and power, though for the most part the buildings consist of adobe, rough lumber and tents Storey County. The unwateiing of the great Comstoek mines Is proving a success. This one thing more than any other is causing the great revival now on there A few months ago property owners were selling sell-ing their buildings for old lumber and1 brick, to be moved to other places. To-I To-I day all Ik changed Paint Is beinsr used, new lumber Is In evidence. The old I smokestacks on the mines are belching I forth smoke and not an Idle man Is to be found there That's the old Stcrcy ,V: county of today andi now that deep ml- II H nlng Is proving a success more prosper- j ity Is looked for. Tho old-timers are 1 " beginning to come back and it would not be surprising to see the grand, old I county once mor claim first rank among the counties of the State. j Ornisby County. ) Carpon, the capital of the State. 13 lo- , cated in Ormsby county-. The past year has been a prosperous one for every- I body within Up confines. Some mining has been going on though the greatest ! rppource is farming and tock raising. 1 The good prices prevailing for hay, grain, stock and farm produce has re-flulterl re-flulterl in a general upbuilding of tho State. Greater things are looked for in 1005. Lyon County. Stock raising and farming are tho j main industries of this county. Llko its neighboring counties It has experienced a re ival in every direction. Douglas County. Tho Government is now looking to- j ward this county to carry on further its w-ork of reclamation. The waters of the Carson river are diverged into tho 'l great canals In this country. Tho "Walker "Wal-ker river is also to be utilized. Its waters wa-ters will bo used entirely within tho county. Douglas Is already one of tho j leading farming counties of the State. Produce of all kinds is raiwd In Douglas. Doug-las. Fruits thrive, w'hlle Its poultry, butter, eggs, cattlo and stock alwavs command the best prices in adjoining counties as well a In Salt Lako and San Francisco Once the Government completes Its work In Douglas county thousands of acres of wheat that 1b now barren will bo thrown open to settlement settle-ment and cultivation. Eureka County. Tho Old Base Bange has experienced v an excellent year, though aa vet It has not seen Its way clear from the depression depres-sion caused by the fall In silver and tlrs I closing of lis great mines irt Eureka many ye-ars ago. Yet the people have hopes and It Is quietly rumored that within the next twelve months at least two of the properties are to be opened up. The Eureka Palisade railroad ex- periencedgreater business last year than since the decline. Now It Is reported It J ! to be extended through to Ely nnd I on top of this comes the report that the Western Pacific railroad Is to pas3 through the very center of the countv LB BOY PIKE. |
