Show Values Leg at S30,000. Judge Stewart and a jury are trying the caso of Thomas Perkins vs. tho Oregon Short Line. Perkins was suing su-ing the Short Line for 530.000 damages for the loss of his right leg. He was head brakeman on a freight train from Pocatello to McCammon, Ida., and was knocked off the train while It was in motion by a fence which runs up close to the track. The train ran over him and his right leg had to be amputated. He alleges negligence on the part of the railroad company in having the fence so close to the track. Being placed as It Is the brakemen are liable to be knocked off the trains while In the performance of their duty, he says. The Short Line maintains that the accident wns caused by the plaintiffs own carelessness. |
