Show A GOOD ADVERTISEMENT. Authentic Information reaches The Tribune that locally prominent officials of the Mormon church In various parts of Utah are using The Tribune editorial page an a text for thejr sermons. Perhaps Per-haps the word misusing would be better, bet-ter, as In every Instance cited to us these preachers have misquoted both the letter and the spirit of the utterance of this page. However, The Tribune presents its congratulations to theset men and to their congregations, and is ready also to receive congratulations upon this unexpected un-expected and valuable advertising. Some facts and some surmises, which may be fact, arise from this apparently concerted movement concerning The Tribune In the mectlng-houscs of the Latter-day Saints. First It is clear that the elders who do the preaching must read The Tribune. They surely would not attempt to expound ex-pound its utterances unleEs they had carefully scrutinized Its columns. Second, the congregation In each case has Its attention called to the leading newspaper in the Intermountaln country. coun-try. These are the facts. As to the surmises: sur-mises: The first is that word hns been sent out to warn the Mormon people not to read The Salt Lake Tribune. The second Is that some of the leaders are afraid to have the American party doctrine expounded to their followers. The Tribune hereby expresses Its pleasure at this situation. Its business Is enhanced; the Interest of the people . Is aroused and they scan these columns more closely; and the concerted or sporadic spor-adic effort to restrain the people from learning the real situation will utterly fall. The day when the Deseret News could misstate its opponent's position, and have Its misstatement taken for gospel throughout all the communities of the Mormon people, has happily passed away. In nearly every locality now, Is some member of the church who refurca to be thus blindly led and who Is determined deter-mined to learn what the world says about the church leaders as well as to learn what the church leaders say about the world. From all this will grow the Jdeal situation. situ-ation. Every Gentile In Utah should read the Deseret News; every Mormon In Utah should read The Salt Lake Tribune. Trib-une. We do not know of any method which would more completely enlighten the average Intelligent Gentile of this community com-munity as to the menace pf eccleslas-tlclsm eccleslas-tlclsm here than to have him freruse the church organ. "We do not know of any method which would enlighten and uplift the average Intelligent Mormon of this community more efficiently than to have him read what is the American party purpose in waging battle against sectarian control. Tho American party and The Tribune would have everything to gain and nothing to lose. |
