Show THEY KNEW CHRIST. Wondrous Privilege Given to John and Andrew. Rev. R. S. Walker, until recently of Keokuk, la., preached his first sermon as pastor of the East Side Baptist church yesterday morning. He said In part: ' "In all our lives the great majority of the days differ but little from each other; they bring the same round of daily tasks. But there come days which differentiate themselves from all the others. Days which stand out upon the backgrounds of the past with marked distlnctnes. Such a day came to John and Andrew when they abode with ChrlsL That day they learned to know Him. One of the greatest privileges privi-leges granted to men Is the coming into close personal contact with men of commanding personalltv. The men who knew Abraham Lincoln were highly favored. But these two young men had the higher privilege of abiding abid-ing with Christ. We may know Him. Is He myth, or dream or hazy abstraction abstrac-tion to you. or Is he the Father's well beloved son, a savior and a friend? "Those two young men learned to love the Master. Some men repel; contact con-tact reveals selfishness and conceit. But to know Jesus was to love Him. When He bepan his ministry He must have been wonderfully attractive, There was a light In His eyes and a glow In His countenance. His voice was like the strains of sweetest music, but deeper than all this was that matchless personality which drew men to Him In spite of themselves. These . two youny men learned to serve. Him. Love Impels to service. Andrew went and found his brother. John lavished his life upon him. We want to do something for the one we love. "These three truths follow in necessary neces-sary sequence in our relation with the Christ knowledge, love, service. May the richness and fullnes of their meaning mean-ing be incorporated into our lives." |
