Show Beautiful Afternoon Tea. In a week' that will be recalled for aome time as "the week of teas", none will be remembered with greater pleasure pleas-ure than that of Friday, at which Mrs. Benner X. Smith and Mrs. Ira Hudson Lew Is wero the hostesses. The entire lower lloor of the home was thrown open for the entertainment of guests, who numbered several hundred. Punch was served on the porch, which was lilted up in" a most attractive way with palms, rags and settees. Assisting the hostesses host-esses ln receiving and entertaining were Mrs. Heber M. Wells, Mrs. Windsor Wind-sor V. Rice. Mrs. Robert Harkness, Mrs. W. Mont Ferry. Mrs. J. R. Walker. Walk-er. Mrs. Union Worlhington. Mrs. Francis S. Baseom, Mrs. Henry La Motte. Mrs. Ferdinand J. Fabian. Mrs. George Westervelt. Mrs. Sol Siegel, Miss. Blanche Kimball, Miss Hanauer, Miss Maud -.Thorn. A delightful feature fea-ture of the afternoon wus the music furnished by the juvenile mandulin and guitar 'club under the direction of Theodore Best. This Is the first time these young boys and girls have been heard at any of the large society events and their playing was the subject of favorable comment from all the guests. While not elaborate, the decorations of the rooms were very artistic. Amer-icn Amer-icn Beauties tilled tall vases on either side of the mantel, which held bowls of garden roses of the same deep red. On the piano were vases of white gar deu pinks, filled the air with their delicious de-licious fragrance, and palms were arranged ar-ranged about the room. Pink roses were seen in the large reception hall, and pink and white roses In the dining-room, dining-room, ln the center of the dinlng-table dinlng-table was a circular bed of the roses, outlined with smilax. extending to within a short distance of the table's edge. Three ropes of smilax rearhrd from the chandelier to three silver candlesticks, with candles and shades of pink, which were arranged around the table. The lamps of the chandelier were shaded In pink, and bowls of roses, with crystal candelabra holding candles and shades In the prevailing colors, were on the sideboard. Pink and white were also carried out ln the refreshments. |
