Show That constant progress is making toward the construction of a workable and efficient submarine boat, is evident by the great Interest taken In the subject sub-ject by all the nations of the world, and from the accounts received from time to time of the performances of such boats. The account given of the Fulton Ful-ton at Newport, Rhode Island, where the boat and her crew were submerged continuously for twelve hours Is a proof of endurance and adaptability that Is conclusive of power to stay under water for any ncoded length of time to do whatever could reasonably be expected from such a boat and her crew. But with the perfection of the submarine boat, with her torpedo power, what would remain of the battleship that would be desirable, and how would It be possible to protect a battleship or big cruiser against a submarine boat that Is navigable and is able to remain submerged for hours at a time? |
