Show ATTEMPT TO BREAK JAIL IS FRUSTRATED Special to The Tribune. PARK CITY, Utah, June S.--J. T. Davis, Da-vis, one of tho men lodged In the city Jail on tho charge of stealing hides, attempted to break Jail last night. Davis was thought to be a safe prisoner and accordingly accord-ingly was lodged In tho room adjoining tho office of the City Marshal, Instead of being locked in ono of tho cells. Late last evening Ofllccr Hamilton chanced to go into the room and found Davis busily engaged en-gaged In cutting away the lower portion of tho window sill. He had succeeded In removing about half of tho woodon plccb Into which the ends of tho iron bars project, pro-ject, and In a few more minutes would havo. been a free man. This morning Sheriff Mair took both Davis and Hunter to Coalville and placed them in tho county Jail. it & F. J. McLaughlin, wife and two daughters daugh-ters left this morning for a month's visit to St. Louis and other Eastern points. Mr, McLaughlin cocs as a representative to the supremo lodge of A. O. U. W. at Chattanooga. Chat-tanooga. o a Tho fires were started at the Creole mine today and they will continue to burn until the ore that has been extracted by Lessee J IT. Muffett has been removed. Just how long this will take is not known. 1 Nolthor has it been definitely dooided as to what will bo done at the mino after this ore has boon romovod. e Things are looking brighter cvory day in he Elkhorn district, and if present indications indi-cations aro hut half realized. At tho NolBon group hIx men aro at work pushing the drift northward along tho ledge. From the fifty-foot Iovel tho ledgo dips toward tho north and it la along this incline that tho work is now being done. A depth of about seventy-five foot has been reached and tho workmon are encountering oro as they proceed. Each day brings forth more promising appearances. At tho I X. L. Messrs.' Johnson and Walkor aro hard at v'ork, with every Indication of a good strlko soon. In fact, tho presence of mineral min-eral in the rock now boing removed is such as to Insure tho proximity of the vein. Tho Majestic is stoadily pushing forward its development work, and the McDonald brothers report that tho -showings of the Brown Eagle Indicate tho location loca-tion of a mine. Work was begun this morning in moving mov-ing the two large 150-horse-power boilers from tho railway station to the Sliver King Consolidated mine. Jt required twelvo horses to haul each of these as far as tho Alice mine and from thcro it will be necessary to add about eight horses to get them tho remainder of tho distance. The maoons have about completed tho work of the foundations, and as soon as the boilers arrive they will bo Installed and work at the mine pushed rapidly forward. for-ward. G. W. Gulliver has tho contract of moving the boilers. Prof. Janncy and W. Mont Ferry aro in camp Investigating conditions at the Woodsidc. It is understood tha,t in a fow days there will be something of interest to tell regarding this property. a Mrs. J. W. Gclger left this afternoon for a visit with friends nnd relatives in Burlington, Bur-lington, St. Louis and Chicago. She was accompanied by her son, David. |
