Show CLEARING A MYSTERY. Grand Jury Indicts Treasurer Who Was Found Locked in Vault, POMEROY, O., Oct. 26. Tho Special grand Jury, which hn3 been Investigating tho robbery by alleged masked men of tho County Treasurer's office of ?H,000 here on September 8, brought In an Indictment In-dictment today against Thomas J. Chase, tho County Treasurer, charging him with 4he embezzlement of that amount. Mr Ohaso was arrested and brought Into court. His bond was fixed at SlO.OOl and he was placed in custody of the Sheriff. After Treasurer Chaso was locked up tho grand Jury resumed Its investigation. It Is exppctod that indictments will be reported tomorrow of thoso men who arc charged with being confederates and who locked Chaso in tho vault, where ho was found by his daughter. As It Is gonorally known who Is being Investigated for complicity, thero Is much excitement horo this evening. Chase comes of good family, is 50 years old and has a wlfo. two sons and ono daughter, tho younger son, Guy, being deputy treasurer. Chaso Is a member of tho Methodist church, a leader In Sunday-school Sunday-school work, a promlnont Mason and was never beforo auspeoted of wrong doing. Tho family aro noted singers. |
