Show DYNAMITE BOMB IS FOUND FOOD People of Wallace in the Coeur d Alene Coutry Excited Spokane Wash March the attempt made three weeks ago to blow up the Standard mill three miles above Wallace Ida a dynamite bomb I weighing pounds was found this morning In the ice on the south fork of the Occur d Alene river back ot of the fire station and in the very ery heart of Wal lace The finding of the Infernal ma machine machine chine which contained enough explosives to send hundreds to their deaths has set Wallace wild with excitement The bomb was discovered by William rg a member of the fire depart department department ment He dealt the bomb five blows wi with witha th tha a pick before h he discovered what it was That the dynamite was frozen is due the fact that was not blown to atoms and the fire station demolished with a fearful loss of life en berg was engaged in clearing away the ice in the stream to allow the refuse from the stable of the fire to be carried away Frozen fast In the Ice and tailings near the shore he saw what looked to him lIke a piece of wood Thinking to dislodge it he drove hIs pick into it He then hit it four times with the reverse end of the pick When he discovered that he was picking away at ata ata a bomb hurried to the sheriffs office Deputy Sheriff Hicks re returned returned turned with him and together they brought the infernal machine to the rear of the county jail where an inv investigation or of its contents was made The bomb was wasa a sheet lead encased cylinder 12 inches long and 27 Inches The bottom of it was of wood securely riveted to 10 the metal The whole cylinder cinder was well soldered On one side was an open opening lug ing with a flap of metal to cover it it This was the place where the fuse was to tobe tobe be applied The whole thing weighed pounds It contained over thirty of dynamite It could have been set off by either a fuse or elec electricity |
