Show A Malicious Libel, A morning contemporary publishes a paragraph stating that a prominent stockholder of Vj. C. M. I. has drawn out $25,000 of his stock to invest in railroad stock. We notice the libel because it was not designed as a bare item of news, but; was published for effect at a distance, the petty scribbler who thus airs his usual mendacity saying: "As this gentleman has been one of the heaviest stockholders in the concern, aud one whose name is most relied on in the cast, this action on his part will cause the eastern merchants to think a little on so important a move." There has not been a single dollar of stock drawn from Z. C. M..L, but, instead, the capital capi-tal stock has been increased within a recent period. The paragraph in question ques-tion is a libellous fabrication and in every respect in accorJanco with the contemptible sheet that gave it publicity. public-ity. The credit of 'A. U. M. I. is, however, how-ever, too firmly established l'or any such falsehoods to affect it. |
