yesterday at the session of the county court when Richard G Lambert was elected superintendent super-intendent of the county infirmary to take the place of Bowman Cannon who was removed by the same tribunal a few weeks ago I was expected of course that Selectman Roberts would name Mr Caxjnonfis successor land this he did but that Mr Lambert should be his dhoice was a surprise even to the members of the court I was confidently expected that either Joel Allen the former superintendent or one of the other applicants would have the support of the Selectmen but they were doomed to disappointment The formers name was presented and Mr the appointment Roberts voted squartely against After transacting some routine matters mat-ters Mr Roberts presented the peti tion of Mr Lambert Signed by many prominent people among whom were She three judges of the supreme court and moved that the petitioner be elected to the desired position I The motion was about to be put when Mr Christopherson named Mr Joel F Allen A vote was taken resulting in a tie Selectmen Roberts and Geddes favoring fa-voring Lambert while Christopherson and Judge MoNally voted for the latter lat-ter terWell since I cant have my first choice I would like to present the name of H H Pederson said Mr Chris topherson Another vote was taken with the same result McNally and Christopher son voting for Mr Pederson this time After some preliminary skirmishing Selectmen Roberts and Christopherson the members of the infirmary committee commit-tee repaired to an adjoining room and after a brief consultation the deal was I1Xe The pair emerged from the room the former being the vanquisher van-quisher and then a third ballot was taken resulting in the unanimous selection lection of hiS Lambert Judge McNal ly remarking that it would be of no use for him to hold out against the three a their votes were sufficient to elect anyway The appointment of Mr Lambert is said to be a good one He ha been connected with the office of the Deser et News fur some time past and was a member of the last constitutional convention conventon The change from territory to state under the nrovisions of the constitution constitu-tion abolishes the fee system now in vogue in all county offices As a result re-sult of this change the clerk was instructed in-structed to notify all county officers to deposit l fees collected from JanuaryS January-S with the treasurer until the legislature legisla-ture makes some provision in the matter mat-ter of arranging salarjes Attorney Whittemqre notified the court that the members of the bar and the district judges desired to have the benches in the upper court room changed and the selectmen were accordingly ac-cordingly given authority to make any necessary changes The cleric was
