Show WLrsy 1EPf TIET Ogden Jan 16 E REPUBLICANS 1 is a significant fact that Weber county Republicans had more to do in the settlement of the senatorial muddle than the Republicans from any other section of the state In the first place they arc all happy because they were l for F J Cannon and then a very large contingent was for Arthur Brown I was not so hard to get F J in out of the wet when they got his father off the track but it did require some cute management to get Brown under the wire ahead of the field To Browns managers in and out of the legislature Messrs Allison and Rogers is a great deal of credit due for his I sulendid time on the senatorial racetrack race-track I wH be remembered that The Herald Her-ald was the first to announce that Brown actually had any votes for senator when it published an interview with Senator Sen-ator Allison announcing what he was going to do Now The Herald does not claim any credit for electing Brown but merely refers to the fact as an incident connected with the campaign The Brown managers proposed to make an open and vigorous fight and while some Republicans thought it would injure in-jure the chances of F J Cannon i seems to have worked all right All of the senatorial booms that have amounted to anything on the Republican can side have been hatched here in Og den and while some of them have been bad eggs and did not prove to be game birds two of them were winners and that certainly ought to be glory enough for one Republican community STANDING FIRM The decision of the Democratic members mem-bers of the legislature to stand by their colors in the senatorial fight which received ceived the endorsement of the state committee com-mittee and The Herald is regarded by the Democrats of this county as sound Dolitical sense Why any Democrat should be asked to support any Republican for senator unless perchance Republicans agreed to support and help elect one Democrat to the senate is something that people hereabouts who have an abiding faith in Democracy can not understand The Heralds position in this senatorial controversy ha received the favorable commendation of Republicans as well as Democrats in this county Of course the matter is settled now and all the inci dents have been molded into history yet reviewing the whole campaign from beginning to end the Democratic party has no reason to complain or wish to change any action taken by the party as a whole I is a clean record and will be an honor to the party and the men who have been the principal actors in the stirring acts that have taken place on the political stage within the past few months 1ast The Democracy of Weber county consider con-sider that it means something to be members of such a great and glorious party I means that the party men should stand together In this county they do stand by one another and for the great principles of their party They do not believe in disbanding when defeat I de-feat overtakes them but rather that they should rally under their banner and meet the enemy in another field I The fact that the Democrats in tho legislature have made no unholy alliances or wandered off after strange idols will I certainly prove a blessing Whether it was their unfaltering determination to I stand together that made the Republicans come together and wash their own linen will probably never be known for a certainty I cer-tainty Be that as It may the Democrats I can go home and meet their constitu consttu ents like honest men which they could I I not have done had they even entertained a proposition to elect two Republicans to the United States senate merely for the purpose of breaking a Republican slate SECOND DISTRICT COURT Judge Rolapp presided in the Second district court
