Show i MT BALDY GOLD MINES The Sevier the Surprise and Breck I enridgeMammoth BrickenridgeMammoth Mine Gold I Mountain District June 29 After a short hut sound sleep and a hearty I breakfast at the camp of Messrs Moore Snyder at Gold City the trail was hit today for the Sevier mine I Manager Charley Laummersdarf was I seated in an arm chair at the corner of his log residence serenely smoking and his genial face lit up with a smile of welcome for The Herald tramp An introductlbn to Mrs Laummersdorf i was given and a short chat ensued Mr Laummersdorf and his good lady are Germans and hail from the banks of the beautiful Rhine While both are cheerful there is a tinge of sadness in their voices when referring to the past Eight children all they had have passed over the dark river and in their declining years there are no strong shoulders upon which they can I lean nor attentions they can claim as I the right of parentage I When asked by The Herald man who represents Charleys favorite paper if access to the mine were permi sable he replied certainly Mr Gibbs we have no secrets in the Sevier Mr Lammersdorf blew a shrill blast on a whistle used by him to signal his employees and when one appeared I said here show this gentleman through the mine and give him all the infonration you can concerning it From the mill up the hill towards the west a distance of 1200 or 1300 feet GREAT BOULDERS OF ORE i crop from the soil and gravel which for 30 feet in depth u ill Mr Lammers dorf assured me pay to run through the mill i From nearly any of those boulders I free gold quartz fan be broken On I the apex of the ridge 10500 feet above ht I sea level 1 the great vein i crops in massive and broken ledges Two hundred hun-dred vertical feet from the apex the vein is pierced by a tunnel 100 feet In length which catches the ledge on its I dip of about 45 degrees to the east From the face of the tunnel a level has I been run to the south about 450 feet all the way in ore that will sample not I less than 15 per ton The vein will nm Pt rJ I average more than 14 feet wide and often swells to 20 or 30 feet Another level runs towards the north and then I bends to the iiorthwest in all a distance dis-tance of 250 feet the entire level being S ing In ore of the same grade as that i looeJ lfo just mentioned Along this level a few feet from the tunnel an upraise I I i S was made and stoped out to the height 1 I of three setts of timbers A few feet j back of the main ledge there is edg thEre another an-other vein five feet wide and carrying i II about the sam quality of ore The ore vanes in color from white to iron I stained quartz and in portions of it has the same bluish purple cast which is a feature of 1 the rich ore thus far I found in the district and will run from 5 in gold away up INTO THE THOUSANDS 11 Laummersdorf assures me that I the Sevier ore is free milling and that with the small quantity of silver it contains it readily yields to ohlonna tion Below the mill the tailings from former runs have been cribbed back and the 15000 in values which they contain vill be exit acted by the cyanide process in a mill to be erected just below the tailings dump Work is now progressing on a tunnel just back of the mill which will tap the ledge at a depth of 1000 to 120 feet This should not take any great length of time as the tunnel is now I in some 700 feet The ledge would have been pierced some time ago but for the f c that a fault which incidentally inci-dentally proves the great depth of the course vein has deflected it from its original THE LEVIER GROUP I of four claims is certainly a magnifi cent property and 11 Laummersdorf proposes to hold on until he gets his price and as he holds a majority of the stock things will go about as he directs He assured me there is not I a word of truth in the report that the Sevier was recently placed under bond An examination was permitted with I the understanding that if the parties wanted If at a certain price cash I down they could have it The results of sampllhg were all right hut Mr I Laummersdorf declined to knock off 40000 or 150000 from his figures as a discount for the fault bugaboo because be-cause as Mr Laummersdorf puts it It wont cost one forh of the proposed discount to prove that any reference to the fault as having any malign influence in-fluence on the value of the Sevier lode is merely a bluff Along the Sevier ode and adjoining the Sevleris situated THE SURPRISE FROUP I of nine claims owned by Moore Snyder and Walter James The ledge is F J i I opened In a number of places for a distance of nearly 3000 f t disclosing I a vein fully five feet wide and carry ing an average of S per ton In gold at the grass roots which i is a very conservative estimate as to i size and i value a No work has been recently done on I this fine property but a force of men will be put on within a few days and before another winter there is no doubt but that a good showing will be made i in Increased values From the Surprise to the Breoken ridgeMammoth a distance of 2G2 rods j I to the southeasterly James Lang has constructed a genuine boulevard and I nearly all the way through heavy timber I LONGS BOULEVARD is the continuation of a fine road constructed con-structed by Moore Snyder from the Sevier mine over the hill to the Surprise Sur-prise and which ends at the Breckin ridgeMammoth Mr Long is part owner and superintendent of the group of ten claims Just named which is the I property of eastern capitalists Everything about the domain of Mr I Long is an evidence of his love of method order and system In order to i g rhae i j get the neat hewn log boarding house and office In harmonywith the Polar I Star an excavation was made in the hillside and the dirt thus obtained was I carefully cribbed and now the genial I superintendent is ready for a lawn In front and a raddish patch in the rear of the buildings The BrecktnridgeMammoth is r the same mineral belt as the Sevier rnd Surprise which it joins anl which is a sufficient indication of its value The upper tunnel cuts the ledge I at a depth of 40 feet where levels to the north and south were run on a fine edge fully nine feet wide and carrying values val-ues of H to 122 in gold and 155 ounces In silver per ton The ore is similar in appearance to that of the Sevier and in fact to that of the entire district Lower down the hill another tunnel is being run which will tap the vein at a depth of about 400 feet The tunnel tun-nel is now In some 1S8 feet substantially substan-tially timbered and it will require some 500 feet more of work to intersect the vein Three shifts of two men each are pushing the tunnel ahead and three other men comprise the working fore The above described mines are situated situ-ated near the head of the west fork of Mill Creek close to water power and with mining timber on the claims I Mr C H Jacobs the well known I mining man is in the camp and is dead in love with the district Mammoth Mill Will Resume At a meeting of the directory of he Mammoth Mining company held yesterday yes-terday afternoon it was decided eI start up the mill and The Herald was I informed by Manager P T Farnsworth that operations would begin with a full i force on the 5th inst which will vive j the employees of the company a chance to celebrate in proper shape before returning I re-turning to steady work The fact that the mm win resume I i operations will be good news to the j I people of Mammoth as well as to the camp at large and as it is understood j that the mine is in excellent condition i I a brighter future for the camp is seen irgly assured Silver and Lead The silver and lead quotations yesterday I yes-terday were as follows Bar silver 601s cents slver I I Lead still entertains the idea of erecting cyanide works at his mines in which case about SO yer cent of the refractor ores could be saved and the mine put on a big paying basis I A Hon T P Farnsworth has returned from Neveda where he has been for the purpose 01 witnessing flip initial run of the new Austin mill which hp pays i I started oft In a most satisfactory manner 1 man-ner M of Farnsworth also
