Show rP PKE ETEllG53 11 O OOO OO O I Yesterday Acting Chief of POll p Rhodes received a letter from Conley I and McTasue of Deer Lodge Mont stating that they had received the photograph sent them from here of Charles Gray alias L P Shannon They recognized the picture as that of Henry Sherman who served a three years sentence at that place on a charge of grand larceny He was released re-leased from the penitentiary on the 13th of last August He arrived in Deer Lodgo from Park county Mont on the 23rd of February 1895 Conley and McTague are prison contractors and had Gray under their charge during his incarceration This then clears up the mystery surrounding the gentleman burglar who was caught in the act of burglarizing the house of Mr John B Gries a short time ago 1 > i 4 > A young woman appeared at the police po-lice station during the early part of the week and reported to the police that she had had a watch stolen from her She had gone into the dressmaking rooms of Mrs Gannon and laid the watch on the dresser while she tried on a basque While she and Mrs Gan rcn wen busy with the dress a China man came to the house to sell vegetables vege-tables After he had gone they discovered dis-covered that the watch was also missing miss-ing They immediately suspected the Mongolian and reported their suspicions suspic-ions to thepolice Yesterday the two women saw the Chinaman and demanded that he give up the watch He denied having taken it but the women persisted and threatened threat-ened to call the police to their aid This Iso I-so frightened the almondeyed petit larcenist that he handed over the watch As he did so he explained that he had only taken it in fun > and did not mean to keep it The women haying hay-ing recovered the watch didnot care to carry the case any farther so it was dropped 1 > 1 > 1 > Frank Williams was yesterday arrested ar-rested by Officer Dillon for obtaining goods under false pretences 1 > 1 > 1 > A deaf mute was arrested yesterday by Officer Hemple on a charge of assault as-sault It is alleged that he struck a small boy with a stick in a very vicious vic-ious manner and without provocation The mute was locked up in jail to await his trial before Judge Wenger in police court 1 > 1 > 1 > It was decided yesterday that the case against OMara the man that was charged with breaking a window in Barney Harveys saloon would be dropped OMara is now in Pocatello under arrest but will undoubtedly be liberated unless the officials there have something against him Investigation of the case led to the statement by those most interested in the case that they would not go to the expense of bringing him back to Salt Lake to prosecute him It is thought that OMara gave himself up to the police at Pocatello in order to get a free ride back to Salt Lake but in this he will be disappointed 1 > < 1 > Another check issued by W H Barnett Bar-nett came to lIght yesterday A man named Brocco appeared at the station with the paper which he said he had cashed I was for 375 and when presented pre-sented at the bank for payment was declared to be a forgery < 1 James Griffin who was arrested on Thursday on a charge of petit larceny was tried and found guilty yesterday He committed the theft of an overcoat from one Sam Brown and was fined 75 for the offense < 11 It was reported to the police yesterday yester-day that Frank Pain who lives near the Jordan river had his horse runaway run-away The animal was attached to alight a-light buggy and since they started he had not found the missing rig |
