Show pSORRIS BRIBERY OASES Must Be Tried This Term the Exact Ex-act Date Not Fixed Attorney D N Straup appeared before be-fore Judge Young yesterday on behalf of Joseph R Morris to urge a speedy trial of the charges against Morris of accepting a bribe in the matter of the furniture deal with Andrews Co of Chicago Mr Straup urged that the charges had been pending a long time and the trials several times postponed The prosecution seemed to be unwarrantably unwarrant-ably delaying thb hearing and working a great hardship on his client He asked that the trial be ordered to come off immediately after the trial of Hay ken which is set for April 27 This he thought ought to be agreeable to the prosecution as the same witnesses were required ir both cases and having hav-ing to come from Chicago one trip would answer for both cases County Attorney Whittemore objected ob-jected to the cases being set and said that the witnesses could remain but three days during Haykens trial having hav-ing to return to Chicago He thought he could get them again about May 15 and expected to try the Morris cases about that time Judge Young said the defendant was entitled to as speedy a trial as possible and while he did not want to put the prosecution to any disadvantage disadvan-tage Mr Whittemore would have to make his arrangements so that the trials would be had at this term of court |
