Show SENATOR SHOUP I WRITES AN OPEN LEER TO IDAHO IDA-HO PEOPLE I Attacks Made Upon Him By Dubois Are He Says Groundless in an Unwavering Friend of the White Metal Special to Tho Herald BOISE Ida April 18Senator Shoup in an open letter to the Republicans of I Idaho to be published in tomorrows Statesman defends his position in voting I I against taking up the tariff bill for consideration con-sideration He refers to the attacks made I on him by Dubois in this state and says the accusation cannot be sustained and is made by parties who deem it legitimate legiti-mate to disrupt the Republican party in the state Continuing he says 1 desire to emphasize my unwavering loyalty to silver in the most emphatic i language possible and challenge any i man to be a more ardent or zealous advocate ad-vocate of unlimited coinage of sliver than myself I have advocated it in every speech that 1 have made in our state as well as by my votes and speeches in the senate and shall continue to work faithfully faith-fully and zealously on all opportune occasions casions to accomplish that end I doubt however the propriety of coupling tariff and silver in the same bill nor do I believe be-lieve we can secure triends for silver by threatened coercion I believe i is our duty as senators to pass a bill that will create a sufficient revenue to defray the I expenses of the government In failing to do so we invite the president to resort to the issuance of bonds to cover the deficiency I de-ficiency an act for which we had previously pre-viously criticised him I |
