very few had ever visited Zion before and npne had seen Saltair They had no idea such a resort existed anywhere in the western wilds a some of them put it hesitatingly lest the application of the term offended their hosts While the band played the sightseers gazed ait the broad briny expanse and marveled not more however at the eloquence of Gus Holmes who consti Ituted himself chief delineator said told hw one could stand straight up in the iaiter if one tried ithan at the enterprise enter-prise of building the great pavilion Every quarter of the resort was inspected under the guidance of the members of the committees and meanwhile several of the gentlemen who could not resist the temptation tried the swimming qualities of the waters and found a had been represented repre-sented to them that it was a easy to float a to sink The party remained at Saltair an hour then returned to the city and put in the intervening time before dinner in looking over the citys mercantile mer-cantile establishments or such points as interested them the most Alfter dinner at the Knutsford the delegation departed at 645 for Glenwood all expressing ex-pressing themselves a better satisfied with the day than any other they had spent since leaving their homes in the east for while Great Salt Lake was na as big a the Pacific ocean it was more interesting and while they had seen some very beautiful landscape and some fine hotels etc Salt Lake was the only place where they had seen sights which could not be anywhere else in the world duplicated I was not an infrequently heard remark that the whole of the rest of the trip could have been well dispensed with rather than have missed the visit to Zion THE KNUTSFORD ENTERPRISING Proprietor Gus Holmes of the Knuts ford displayed an enterprise in his efforts ef-forts to give the visitors a good time and send them away with a good impression im-pression of Salt Lake worthy of emulation by everyone interested in spreading the fame of Salt Lake and of Utah when such parties are visiting the city I is not an exageration to say he expended 1000 in decorating his hotel and in doing his part in the lays entertainment Between the close of business hours Tuesday night and yesterday morning the rotunda corridors dining halls nnd parlors of the Knutsford were transformed into a veritable hothouse under the skilled hand of Florist Hud dart Mr Holmes himself sitting up all night to superintend the work When morning came and his guests arrived the rotunda was redolent with the fragrance of orange blossoms and a profusion of other blossoms of almost al-most every description In the center of the rotunda stood an orange tree In full bloom to the branches of which the ripened fruit had been so deftly fastened a to be aljnost impossiljle
