Show WORK STARfrED As exclusively announced in yesterdays yester-days Herald ten car loads of material I mater-ial consigned to Rhodes Bros has arrived ar-rived Yesterday surveyors were at work staking out the site for the new warehouse and machine shop The site is near the woolen mills and the structure struc-ture will be a valuable and costly one and a glance at the plans helps one to understand the magnitude of the power plant scheme The building is to be of heavy timbers 150 feet long by 80 feet wide It will be two stories high and will have a leamto along each side which will be used for storing plate and other material Inside the building build-ing will be located several machines for the preparation of the piping Solid concrete foundations will be put in for the building to rest upon There will be one depjrtment for the puncturing machines another for the riveting and a third for the rolling As this class of work is somewhat new to Ogden people an explanation of the various operations Is necessary The firm get the steel for the piping in sheets These will be stored in the leantos of the warehouse until needed They will be cut in strips the proper size and then they will go to the puncturing punc-turing machines where holes will be bored for joining the two edges together to-gether ADler being thus prepared the plate goes to the rolling machine which will roll the flat plate into cylindrical form bringing the holes in each edge together Thence the hollow cylinder passes to the riveting machine and the edges firmly joined Over all the entire building there will pass a huge movable crane for the purpose of handling hand-ling machinery and material Electricity Electric-ity compressed air and steam will all be used in tine building m operating the different mechanical contrivances A short distance from this large building will be located the planing shop where much of She work in the preparation of the wood piping will be done The pdans of the structure were drawn by F E Edtorooke A dipping shop and paint shop will also be constructed con-structed and these together with the large commissary department will form the nuclues of a lively little suburb sub-urb near the canyons mouth The warehouse and machine shop is to be constructed of wood but still of heavy substantial kind and the foundations are of concrete It is probable that the building will remain there a permanent per-manent Industry for Ogden With the completion of the power plant cheap power will be available and the business busi-ness of constructing piping bids fair to be the first great industry of tine many which the power plant will bring to Ogden |
