Show L SEVIER COUNTY Peculiar Water Suit at Richfield of Great Importance Richfield Feb Yesterday the city of Richfield ted a suit against S G Richfeld Clark J M Lauritzen and W J Bean copartners in a stream of water which thev have found by digging above Richfield The suit piqmises to be an interesting one and will be hotly contested con-tested City Attorney I J Stewart assisted sisted by his partner C W Collins while Jen has the case for the city whie flings and Snyder are the attorneys on the other side The city alleges that the water struck ciy aleges by the partnership is the same vein of k water as that supplying the city spring while the other side says it has measurements meas-urements to prove otherwise The other evening The Herald representative of sentative approached the members the city council who compose the committee com-mittee on irrigation and asked them about the suit They informed him that they were sure that the water belonged be-longed to the corporation and they intended in-tended to have It When asked for the results of their measurements they had nothing to say preferring to wait until the suit came on Messrs Clark and Lauritzen were more talkative They said that the members of the council knew it was their water and had admitted it but for other motives lil had begun the suit Meantime the people are hoping that I the water is not city water Above Richfield there are a large number of city lots which have no steady irrigating irrigat-ing stream and the town wculd grow very fast if plenty of water could be put on them There is a great deal of agitation regarding re-garding reservoirs right now Several of Richfields leading men are traveling to various parts of the country enlisting en-listing the irrigation companies in the work On Otter creek in Grass valley reservoir site of magnitude there is a sie magniude A dam of moderate height would throw water back for five miles in a valley a fourth mile wide The general senti ment is in favor building this reservoir reser-voir with the means that would be spent in water suits during the coming year and next year there will hewater enough for all But there are other reservoirs to build The people ofiVn 4 nabella will raise their Cove mountain i reservoir eight feet during the coming season The Three Creek reservoir was nearly completed last fall and remains to be finished this summer Several attempts at-tempts have been made to have the people buy Interests in the reservoirs in Marysvale but they are too distrustful distrust-ful of the scheme and want to build some of their own The great amount of snow that has I fallen on the already drenched ground insures plenty of water next spring I and destructive high water is feared destrctve Old settlers count away back to tell a year when the Sevier valley had so much precipitation a it has had this year The valley does not have nearjy I so much snow as the neighboringvalley of Sanoetp nor yet of northern Utah but this year there is a plenty and no one fears |
