Show BED RIVER MINING DISTRICT New Gold and Silver Camp in Southern South-ern Colorado The Colorado papers are having a great deal to say of late regarding anew a-new gold and silver mining carr > which is located between Red river and Moreno valley in Laos county The district which is prolilic in its wealth of gold and silver the gold predominating is situated four miles west of Elizabethtown two miles south of Hematite and six miles southeast of Red River City The camp is still in its infancy but if the reports from there can be relied upon i gives promise prom-ise of outstripping Cripple Creek as a rich Droducer of the precious metals and already the district is having quite a boom which is likely to develop into a mad rush with the coming of spring In yesterdays issue of The Herald mention was made of this promising camp and from a recent copy of the < Denver Post more details are gleaned concerning it a follows Jack Young one of the best known and most experienced mining men in Colorado and New Mexico visited the Red River mining district this week in the interests of a prominent syndicate whose mode of operation will soon declare I de-clare their personality He says that i never within the range of his experi rnce ence has he visited a more varied and diversified mineral outlook and cropping I crop-ping The country is one in which the geologist would revel and where the tenderfoot can as easily locate a claim as the most bewhiskered prospector Great dykes of porphyry cross the county showing schist granite and slate contact wherein nestling close to the fissures are the streaks which gladden and make rich the efforts of I the miners Mr Young will soon publish an elaborate elab-orate report upon this section for hiss his-s I The Victoria Gold Mining company owner of the Spencer lode is about to resume active operations upon that most promising property about half a mile above Red River City The pay streak shows magnificent specimens of manganese associated with oxides and the entire streak so far as shown has been carried away by excited mineral specimen hunters The ore hereafter will be carefully housed in the com I panys office A Post representative a shown the returns from the latest strike in the Red River district and runs 235 ounces in gold and 12 ounces In silver value 4731 per ton The new shaft house at the Midnight mine is now completed and the hoisting hoist-ing engine will be put in operation next week The work of building the shaft house ad hauling the engine to the mine has been rendered quite difficult by the continued succession of storms and wind but every possible effort has been made to hasten the work so a to resume the sinking of the large two compartment shaft now between 120 and 130 feet deep and undoubtedly the finest timbered and most practically arranged shaft in the district The shaft house is a large substantial building 30x45 feet in size covered with corrugated iron and for the present pres-ent will be large enough tor engine house blacksmith shop and an apartment apart-ment for the astsiyins and chemical laboratorr in chare of Mr A E Robinson The er of progress has set in in earnest The snow storms have been frequent and the wind continuous for the cast month but nevertheless cap Halists f i t both ithe I mono ed and blanket variety business men miners and prospectors are coming in by stage on horseback and on foot Neal Garner has returned to Red River having just returned from Colorado Colo-rado Springs where he completed arrangements ar-rangements t stock his mine at 2500 000 Colorado Springs parties will hold onethird of the stock and Mr Garner and his partner the othe twothirds All differences and conflicting claimiv have been amicably adjusted I appears ap-pears that the ore is even richer than at first reported Mr Game showed your correspondent a piece of ore which he calls his secondclass ore together with the assarers certificate which shows the almost incredible returns of 5139300 per ton in gold and several thousand ounces of silver Also a piece of his best ore which he did not have assayed but which was estimated by specific gravity to contain the enormous value of 22000 PER TON IN GOLD besides a larce amount of silver The ore ran more than half Its weight in gold |
