| Show HOUSE SESSION SHORT I HOUSBESSION Representatives Remained I Their Seats Only Half An Hour I Prior to the opening of the afternoon session i of the joint assembly the house of representatives occupied a short half I hour In passing upon the few matters of rcratine business that came up for consideration I was the shortest and least interesting session of any held vet not because the grist to be ground out has become exhausted but for the reason that the senatorial contest Ts affording more and more daily an effectual blockade to the work of legislation A communication from the governor announced his approval of house bill No 16 appropriating 25000 for the regular and contingent expenses of this legislative session A vote was taken on Representative N J Harris proposition to amend rule S6 so as to provide for the printing print-ing of bills after first leading and before be-fore reference to committees which proposition was under consideration Thursday The proposed amendment amend-ment was rejected by a two to one vote Representative Robinson offered an amendment of similar purport to Harris and it was referred to the committee on rules On motion of Representative Fisher the courtesies of the house were extended ex-tended to Corporal Call and Private Holbrook of battery A Utah volunteers volun-teers The heroes are < ieghbors of the representative from Davis county and have just returned from Manila Mainly through Mr Hansens efforts ef-forts the vote by which house memorial No 2 relating to Indian depredations was passed on Thursday was reconsidered The memorial was then referred to the committee on memorials to congress so that the document may be redrawn and couched couch-ed In more appropriate language An effort was made by Mr Jackson to have reconsidered the vote on the passage on Thursday of house concur rant resolution No 4 1 authorizIng the governor to appoint a messenger to servo during the legislative session but the house by a vote of 10 to 29 refused to reconsider The committee on judiciary reported house bill No C relating to the definition defini-tion of grand larceny with amendments amend-ments and recommended that it pass Report adopted and bill ordered printed At 230 the house adjourned |
