Show THE IVANHOE MINE Gold Producer Which Salt Lakers Are Interested 4 CALIFORNIA DRIFT MINING + EEYTONi AND HLAITCHABI INSPECT IN-SPECT VALUABLE PROPERTY + The Smelter Purchase Takes In the Baaauer as Well as the Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania The Old Exchange Tha Hew Exchange The Old Bollins Min Proposed Consqlidation + Messrs Gill S Peyton of this city and Denman Elanchard of Boston accum panled by their wives have returned from an extensive trip through variqus portions of California having missed the cold weather experienced in Salt Lake during the past two or three weeks the visit i having been a 1pet agreeable and pleasant l one in many ways I One of the objects of Sir Pe tons visit to California was to inspect the Ivanhoe mine and mill in Ama or county nut rar from Plymouth This I mine is owned by Mr Peyton Clarence I McCoinick und J A Brent these gentlemen gen-tlemen having purchased it as a livermore liver-more than a year ago and now they are congratulating themselves as it gives promise of coming to the front in dye time as a bonanza of no mean proportions pro-portions The operation of the mine lies been under the able care of Mr Brent ever fcince Its purchase and this gentleman has not only blocked out splendid boJ V ies of goldbearing ore in its workings fiurins this period but he has also erected a twentystamp mill on the property the plant being put into commission com-mission but a month or six weeks ago the mill working nicely and making a handsome saving of the free gold in the ore while WJUly tables take I care of the sulphurets a bar of gold cleaned up from the plates having been brought home by Mr Peyton who takes pleasure in displaying it to the admiring gaze of his many friend In speaking of the mine Mr Peyton stated that It was opening out in tine shape and that in its workings bodies of ore forty feet in width were being exposed while the quartz was literally quarried at the surface and run through the mill I The feature of the trip most interesting inter-esting to Mr Blanchard was the inspection in-spection of the drift grave mine at Mokelumne Calaveras county owned by the North Star Gold Mining company com-pany and it is more than likely that as a result of this visit and inspection Mr Blanchard as well as Mr Peyton ivil in due time become interested in ancj identified with the operation of these great placer diggings which a ithin their environments embrace seven miles of an old river bed or channel I chan-nel the width of which will average 200 feet while the average thickness of the pay streak is about fifteen feet from bedrock up the yellow metal being be-ing what is termed scale gold and running about 2 ip value to the ton while it can be mined and milled at a cost not exceeding 50 cents a ton As previously stated the property is operated on a system called drift mining min-ing while the gravel is run through I mills three of which with a daily capacity I ca-pacity of a hundred tons each are in i r iliedo i c instant operation on the ground or I rather the plants are strung up and I don the old river bed within the holdings hold-ings of the company i The party took in San Francisco bc foie returning home besides which j stops of a few days each were made at I Los Angeles and Monterey the ladles greatly enjoying the trip and outing i |
