Show BAMBERGER j NAMED As School Board Candidate Prom the Fifth Ward t TH UNA1IMOUS + CHOICE I CA OOTE SELECTED SELECT-ED BY TEE OH + I sake Greenewad Is Anxious to Avoid Being Caught NappingOonven tons I the First and Third To nghtIm Alma Eldege I ToW ent ria Notes + Simon Bamberer was unanimously nominate for election to membership in the board of education bv a mass convention of the people of the Fifth municIpal ward held last evening The convention was composed of voters of all political parties I was held at 17 South Main street and was fairly well attended Judge Loofbourow presIded ExCongressma C E Allen put in nomination the name of imon Bam berger and ale Greenenald seconded No other nominations were mae and on motion of F C Loofbourow the implied im-plied rules were suspended and Mr Bamberler was nominated by acclamation acclama-tion Jake Greenewald suggested that it would be a good thing to appoint a campaign committee to attend to the election and get the voters out in force On a previous occasion Mr Greene wald aid another ticket had been sprung it the last moment and the supporters of the regular nominee were taken by surprise and came very near losing the election In order to avoid a possible repetition of this thing he thought a campaign committee was an advi able thing to have on hand The convention seemed to be of the Same mind and i was unanimously agreed that such a committee should be appointed There was a difference of opinion as to the best mode of selecting se-lecting the committee Some thought it should be appointed by the chair clair others by the convention and others by the chairmen of the Democratic Republican Re-publican and Populist ward committees commit-tees Motion after motion followed in rapid succeeion and the Droceedings got tangled up so that it would have taken all the acumen Of the cleverest parlamentarian to unravel the knot The mater was further complicated by suggestions as to how the committee should be divided politically C E Allen remarked that the convention was nonpolitical and so was the nomination nom-ination There were Republicans God save the name and Democrats hal breed Republicans and halfbreed Democrats Dem-ocrats I mattered not to the speaker whether the proposed committee was made up of all Democrats all Repub licans Gentiles all Populists all Mormons or all J S Daveler appeared to be of about the same opinion as Mr Allen except that he denied there were any half breed Democrats they were all thoroughbreds thor-oughbreds The halfbreeds were Re Dublc2ns Finally all Previous motions were tabled and Jake Greenewalds motion moton that the chair appoint a campaign com mitee of five was carried and the meeting adjourned After some consultation the chaIr I named George L Nye C S Wikes H B Clawson D C Eichnor and Alex 11lc1Iaster as the campaign committee |
