not be able to comply with the order of the council coun-cil requiring tho management of the tannery tan-nery to pipe its waste water for the reason that there was no waste water to pipe Besides the tannery would of necessity have to dispose or its water in the manner that had been pursued for years and when the council insisted upon a chance the tannery would close its doors The matter was protest of thirtyeight property owners against the granting of this petition peti-tion and the request of twentyseven other I taxpayers asking that the franchise be I granted were read I Councilor Young in behalf of tho protestants pro-testants said that this proposed road ended at Mr Teasdels residence over half a mile I from Main streot and in order get to the business I part of the city those patronizing the road would have to get transferred to one of the existing lines and there seemed co be no necessity for an additional line Further ho did not approve of granting franchises motion of Councilman Lynn the rate of taxation was Jixed at 5 mills on the dollar CLfTE8 COMPENSATION FIXED AT 2 lEI CENT Councilman Lynn moved that the compensation com-pensation of the assessor be ixe at 2 percent per-cent u the valuation was a little higher than last year when tho compensation was 2K per cent There was no second to this and Councilman Coun-cilman Anderson moved that tno compensation compen-sation remain as it was last year 2 > percent per-cent This would be less than the amount the county was paying I Councilman Hyde thought that 2M percent I per-cent was pretty high and ho favored a re t auction Councilman Young also thought the rato was too high a it would bring the collector col-lector about 9OGl He did not know what the expenses of the collectors office which came out of this amounted to but ho favored the idea of Using a salary for the officer and having the city pay the expenses of the office Councilman Pickard offered an amend that the amount ba fixed at 2 per cent The amendment was carried FIX IT Oil FORFEIT Councilman Hardy offered a resolution requiring tho Salt Lake Hot Springs railway company to put the street and crossings along the line in
