| Show I TRUE TO PARTY Tnere was one feature of Mondays election elec-tion which was peculiarly gratifying Tho chief cry of the Liberal party all through the campaign has been that the Mormons tho exmembers of the Peoples party Were not sincere that they would not vote straight but would fly the track and scratch when they came to the polls THE HEKXLS know how faleaand malicious was this allegation We knew that having declared themselves and taken sides the I Mormons would be true to their professions n aad to their party A study of the returns will tell how faithful they were and will afford a complete refutation of the base charge that they would not standby stand-by candidates not of their religious faith A few instances may bo cited in illustration illustra-tion In this city on the Democratic a council ticket were two nonMormons and one Mormon and the votes of the three varied just five the Mormons being between e be-tween the other two On the Republican j ticket were the names of two Gentiles and n one Mormon the vote of the latter falling twelve below that of the former In Provo the Mormon bishop was a candidate on the Republican ticket by the side of avery a-very prominent nonMormon and the votes of the two were exactly alike The representative tickets of the Democrat and Republican parties in this city were made up of Mormons and Gentiles indiscriminately indis-criminately and some of the latter have been decidedly pronounced in their opposition oppo-sition to the practices of the Saints in the I past but in every instance the vote of tao Gentile is practically the same as that of the Mormon running with him on the ticket thus proving that the Saints were true to their party and professions and furnishing a complete refutation of the charge that the Mormons whould knife all but members of their own faith when they went to the polls |
