| Show THE ODDS AGAINST THEM It Is a very splendid victory and when one thinks of tho odds against which the Liberals of this city and county fought the rsault is a mighty vindication of the clear sense and high purposes of the Liberal rank and file Tribune The odds against which the Liberals of I this city and county fought consisted in having absolute control of that subservient and partisan body known as the Utah commission com-mission This gave the Liberal party absolute ab-solute power to do its own registration to decide upon the validity of every challenge chal-lenge against any vote to vote hundreds of I men illegally in the Second and Fifth precincts i II I I pre-cincts and thus secure a majority in this II I county Let us do the registration say the Liberals and we dont caro what are the odds against us Tbat is the only advantage advan-tage that party needs In order to carry an lection in this city A partisan registration tion means a difference of five hundred votes without any wrong doing on the part of the registrars If these officers are so disposed they can easily double that difference dif-ference Tho partisan registration is the key to the success of the Liberal party in this county I These registration officers are answer able to no one in particular for what they do They are judicial officers and their decision cision is final They are always members of the Liberal party and frequently candidate candi-date for election at tho time that they are I holding office as registrars They have absolute solute control of any election in which the vote is close or in which the vote is anything I any-thing like evenly divided They controlled the election of Monday deciding absolutely j 1 I I who might voto and who micnt not The i i judges of election with two exceptions ex-ceptions merely aided and abetted tho frauds by overruling almost I every challenge made against illegal voting The exception was at poll 2 in tho First I I precinct where two out of the three I judges sustained challenges which they I found to be valid Of course these gentlemen I gen-tlemen will never again be appointed I I judges by the Utah commission They refused re-fused to be made tools of and tile commission I commis-sion will therefore make an abject apology to the Liberal party and vill promise never to appoint them again I The Utah commission refused to recognize recog-nize either the Democratic or the Republican Republi-can party in the appointment of election judges Never before did that useless body i become so servile a slave to the Liberal party an it did In making appointments for the last election The commission is working I work-ing with a zeal worthy of a better cause to I prevent the people of Utah from becoming I either Democrats or Republicans It managed man-aged to hold tho Liberal party together in this city by meanly using its powerful hand to strangle tho Democratic party but it failed miserably It is playing a losing game With only a small break in the Liberal party the Democrats polled 3GS5 votes in this county as against 4255 by the Liberal party upon whoso perpetuity tho salary of each member of the commission depends Anyone can see how tho Democrats will sweep this county and city when the Liberal Lib-eral party disbands f e when tho commission com-mission Is retired The odds against all parties except the Liberal hero In Utah comprise mainly ono itemthe Utah commission That worthless worth-less shameless partisan body controlling our elections so as to enable tho Liberals to do their own registration counting and certification ia tho one bar to Utahs progress pro-gress tho permanent menace to the freedom free-dom of elections the ono vile feature of Utah politics that must be eliminated in the interest of fairness and decency and prosperity |
