| Show A SPLENDID VICTORY Three months ago there was no Democratic Demo-cratic party in Utah Since that time the party has been organised a campaign has been made an election held and today the Democracy is triumphant in every county in the territory save three and in another year will take possession of these Of the twentyfour members of the house of representatives asixteen are Democrats Of the twelve members of the council eight aro Democrats When the vote of tho entire en-tire territory shall be canvassed tho Democratic Demo-cratic majority will probably be between 3000 and 0030 > It may not be regarded as seemly to boast but if ever a party were justified in pluming itself the Democrats Demo-crats are warranted at this time in stcgping high and referring with a large degree of pride to what they have done There was never a greater achievement achieve-ment in a shorter period never did intelligent intelli-gent work accomplish more in the time A few weeks more of such labor as has been performed duriug the past two months would have brought nine tenths of the people within the Democratic fold and left the other parties amazed at their loneliness In recounting what has been done it must be kept in mind tbat it was not a walkover for the Democrats They did not merely have to invite the voters to be Democrats when the latter would comply The advocates advo-cates of other parties wer in the field employing arguments of greater of less force and in too many instances earnestly appealing to the passion and prejudices rather than the reason of the people The Democrats had to win by the presentation of principles by logic by tho strength of their arguments They went with intelligence intelli-gence before intelligent people and the latter being capable of reasoning were convinced the result being what was seen at tho polls on Monday tho great majority of the people marching to the polls aim by their ballots declaring their belief in the principles of government upon which the grand old Democratic party is founded The past few weeks have been busy ones for the Democrats they have baen full of activity and hard earnest work but the result is so glorious that all tho toilers feel that they have been fully paid for all they have done The rescue of the territory from the danger which threatened is a reward re-ward more than sufficient for the effort and the making certain that Utah will march to Democratic music is restful and satisfactory There has been won a splendid victory |
