Show A LEARNED YOUNG WOMAN She Slay Seek a Home in America Young and Interesting MUNICH Bavaria May 20 University men throughout Germany are regarding with great interest the young German doctor of philosophy Fraulein Barbara Ilara Reuz who has taken her degree in I the university of Rome This is the single instance I under stand where a German woman has won c I BARBARA KARA REUZ the doctorate and since colleges are not open to women in Germany Dr Reuz was obliged to matriculate in Italy And she may have to emigrate to America be lore she finds a chair or lectureship to ploy her talents In Europe it is imprac ticable for a learned woman to obtain the position worthy of her qualifications Fraulein Uarabara was a Bavarian girl an uncommonly bright one and made nothing ot getting through the high school in her native town Altetistadt when she was little more than a child Restless for knowledge Fraulein Barbara Bar-bara came to Munich for further study in mathematics history and literature She passed Zurich examinations there and later in Discouraged by the limits and bounds set for German women in their own land she went to Rome There she settled down to five years of hard labor in theoretical theo-retical philosophy history of philosophy pedagogy and Greek literature In her second year at the university she was invited by the president of the philo sophicalphilological faculty to give lectures lec-tures on the general subject of philosophy philoso-phy From that time on she gave lectures on the History of Philosophy Logic I Metaphysics on Pedagogy In the fifth year a criticalhistorical essay entitled The Cosmic Principle obtained Frau I loin Runz her degree Curiously perhaps this learned lady is not the type of a dryasdust philosopher at all she is slight in figure and very pleasing and converses charmingly in seven languages i she likes She is only thirty and carries her ponderous unusual unus-ual honors lightly |
