Show A SHOTGUN CAPTURE Two Toung ThIeves Come to Grief at JCaysvillc KAYSVILLE June 3A couple of rather boyish looking individuals put up at the I Manselt house last evening taking a room next to one occupied by N ti Sb el field This morning after Mr Sheffield i had gone towork they entered his room I divested themselves ol their own soiled I linen anddonned the more genteel apparel of Mr Sheffield After appropriating everything of valuethat was accessable I v = 2 they started for the depot with tie evident evi-dent intention of taking the 10 oclock train for Salt lake But they had misJudged I Judged the time and missed the train Meanwhile the police had been notified and so had Mr Sheffield and the latter lost no time in procuring a shotgun and starting in hot pursuit I He soon overtook the culprits but they did not take kindly to being arrested so Sheffield brought his shotgun persuader into play After the second shot they gave up and were held until the police arrived j when they were escorted to the city jail They gave their names as Henry Becker and Leland Young A number of keys watch chains cuff buttons but-tons etc were found in their possession Though young in years thev seemed to be thoroughly hardened in sin I They were given a hearing before Jus I tice Gailey at 4 oclock this afternoon i when they pleaded guilty and were held to await the grand jurys action It Is stated this evening that they are probably wanted in Ogden to answer to a charge of burglary SCHOOL EXERCISES The district schools of Davis county closed yesterday and the customary commencement com-mencement exercises were held at the Bountiful Opera house at 2 p m The programme was excellent beginning by the schools singing that patriotic American Ameri-can air Hail Columbia Addresses were made by B H Roberts W R smith and Professor G H Brimhall and the valedictory was delivered by Miss Ruble Knowlton one of tho graduates from Kaysville Some very pretty vocal selections sentiments etc were delivered and then came the conferring of diplomas by Superintendent Willey Columbia the Gem of the Ocean was sung by all the schools with a hearty good will and the programme was closed by prayer The teachers and pupils enjoyed the hospitality of John Fisher one of Boun tifuls public spirited citizens at luncheon A SCHOOL PICNIC The Presbyterian mission school spent Wednesday at Websters pavilion The children seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves in the inviting shade of the beautiful grove A lengthy programme which was very interesting and well rendered ren-dered occupied part of the time in the af ternoon and was followed by games and various amusements 1 NOTES ON THE SIDE The Kaysvilla creamery commenced work again yesterday They have been closed for a week for repairs Marriage licenses have been issued to John H Downs and MarthaE Briggs of Bountiful and Samuel T Winegar of bountiful and Elizabeth B DeShaze of laysville The Davis slake quarterly conference convened at Centreville this morning and will be concluded tomorrow |
