Show An Idaho lUiilruud When the Statesman several months ago announced steps would shortly betaken be-taken to build a railroad between Pay ette and Emmitt the t statement was received by many with incredulity says the Boise Id Statesman Last Saturday a meeting was held at Pay ette for that identical purpose and the enthusiasm displayed by the two hun dred or more prominent citizens of Payette valley who were present should have been sufficient present completely routed the ckeptical J H Richards the well known Pay ette attorney was in the city yesterday yester-day Mr Richards is a prime mover in this railroad project and Is confident the road will be built He says a survey sur-vey of the route was ordered at Saturday urday nights meeting An engineer with seven assistants will commence the survey today About forty prominent citizens of Emmett atended the meeting They reported the people of their hustling JittTS town hod already subscribed about 10000 for the survey and con 1 > struction work and more would probably prob-ably be raised rased As soon a the survey is completed Payette will announce the amount it will give towards the enterprise Mr Richards says arailroad such as is projected could soon be placed on a paying basis Besides th fla immense fruit and vegetable traffic lumber cut at Emmett and logs floated down t that place could be taken to market at greatly reduced prices This would increase the already extensive lumber business of that section |
