Show TIE COLONNADE RUINED Another Disastrous Fire in Worlds Fair Buildings Chicago Feb 14A fire again broke out atthe Worlds fair When first discovered the flames were at work on the columns of the colonnade which connects the Machinery hal and Agricultural Agri-cultural building and very near the point in the Agricultural building i where the last fire occurred I had made considerable headway before the first engine arrived and was threatening threaten-ing the building at either end which connects it with the larger structures A second alarm calling more engines engnes was sent out but the snowdrifts en route to the spot prevented the fire department de-partment from making speed and the flames in the meantime were making headway against the inadequate force at work The colonnade is practically in uins the columns are destroyed and the ornamental work of the cornice and statuary above has tumbled down The fire as the others is incendiary The fire was under control at 230 oclock Besides the destruction of a large part of the colonnade the farmers farm-ers assembly hall just back of it was badly damaged but left standing |
