Show TIE ARIZONA KICKER A Good Obituary of Mr White a Dud 3Iim From Montana The first case of suicide ever known in the history of this town which was founded in 1872 occurred last week and the name of the victim was John White Mr White used to be a bad fan in Montana and for a number of years he buried three or four men per year and sailed around under the sobriquet of Deadshot Jack Two years ago he developed cataract of the eye and for the last six months has only been able to get about The other day he was told by the doctor that he would never be able to kill another man un less he got him down and choker him to death and the information had avery a-very depressing effect He replied that life would not be worth the living un der such circumstances and a few hours later he hung himself In the shed in the rear of the Last Buffalo saloon We can recall some good points about Mr White He never interrupted bus iness by killing a man in the daytime and he generally arranged things for the funeral to occur on Sunday just in time for the mourners to get back to the horse race He was a man of strict strc veracity If he sent a word to fellow arfelow citizen that be would call and perforate his anatomy on a certain date he was there to the hour rain or shine He kept no man waiting to be shot Wheh he remarked to a citizen that one or the other of them must change cli mates if both were to live on and that previous engagements prevented enggement prvented his going the other man saw the case in a proper light I Ight and started for New Iexico Mr White had no particular religion texic I but he relbion believed that the world was created in six days and that there was a deluge We believe he killed three different men who didnt exactly be hove as he did One of them was will Ing to admit that it might have rained for thirtyeight days and nights but he stood pat on that We have reasons for believing that Mr White was always al-ways sorry he shot this man Some bad men shoot indiscriminately and without regard to public benefit Mr White was not of this class So far as we can learn he always removed people peo-ple who could well be spared and whose taking off actually improved actualy society so-ciety While he could not be classed a an eccentric he had queer methods For Instance when he came here he had a check on the bank The banker asked him to identify himseJf Mr White took the ace of spades from his pocket placed it in the muzzle of his sixshooter and resting the firearm fire-arm on the shelf of the cashiers win dow he offered to shoot his identity through the bankers body While the offer was respectfully declined with thanks Mr White got his money Again on the Southern Pacific road when a conductor questioned his right to proceed on a layover check two weeks old Mr White laid so many guns and knives and arguments on the seat beside him that he was invited in-vited to ride the whole length of the line on a ticket calling for a trip of only fifty miles We not only at tended his funeral In person but contributed half the expense and we dont expect ever to be sorry for i We have a few better men left but we are satisfied that he did the best he could under the circumstances ABOUT DIVIDENDS The Kicker is in receipt or a letter from a widow in St Louis who says that she holds 5000 worth of stock in the Deep Gulch Sil ver mine and wants to know what is being done and why her dividends are not forwarded We will cheerfully respond re-spond with such information as we have been able to collect up to date The Deep Gulch mine was located by a man who called on us at a subsequent date to explain that he intended to devote de-vote at least half the output to supply In the African heathen with plug hats russet shoes and blue glass spectacles He was a juicy talker and Induced us to invest 2000 in his mine agreeing that our dividends should be at least 20 per cent exclusive of the African pull A few weeks later after riding over to Deep Gulch and finding nothing but the gulch there we went to Tuscon and called on the gentleman referred to He not only sent us word that he was out but escaped by the back door and gave us a gallop of ten miles to overtake him When we finally brought him to bay hg counted out our money and dividends in such a hurry that we found ourself 50 ahead of the game We hadnt any particular business busi-ness with him after the transaction had been concluded and so did not inter fere with his progress toward sunrise I the St Louis widow or any other widow or person owning shares in the Deep Guloh mine will come out here we will take great pleasure pleas-ure in showing them thV aforesaid gulch but as to the mine and the president and the board of directors and dividends the trail is too old to follow We have considerable to do with mines and we have 7de some money in hat sort of speculation but It has always been speculaton happened to be on the ground just before the fel low was ready to leave th3 country and just at a time when he didnt want to stay to be buried at our didntwant expense eXJense h u f f i |
