Sept 1The trading on the stock exchange was light during the two hours Sugar being the only stock displaying anything like activity and the dealings were of a less volume A raid was made on Sugar at the opening which forced the price down 1 per cent to lO which is just 10 per cent below the figures fig-ures current a week ago and 11l percent per-cent below the highest point reached recently the stock having sold up to 114 on Aug 2L There was nothing new in the situation affecting the Sugar interests inter-ests which developed today that would account for the decline and it can only be ascribed to the manipulations of the clique There was a full recovery in the later dealings followed by a reaction of per cent which represents the loss of the day I Rock Island wa again weak today receding re-ceding 4 and closing at the lowest figure I fig-ure touched St Paul touched and Burlington were bothstrong and advanced t and respectively maintaining the full rise to the close Northern Pacific preferred rose 2 percent per-cent on foreign buying and sales to cover short contracts I is said there is a very large outstanding short interest in this stock to which fact is ascribed its strength In the final sales per cent of the days advance was lost Western Union wasin fair request and made an advance of 1 per cent of Which Y percent per-cent was subsequently lost Distilling was
