Show GENERAL BANKS DEAD His Hind Came Suddenly But Peacefully Peace-fully Waltham Sept 1General Nathaniel P Banks died at his home here this morning For nearly two years the general had brain trouble but he was not seriously ill unt two weeks ago Early this summer sum-mer he was taken to the home of his daughter the wife of Rev Paul Sterling Mount Deer Isle Three weeks ago his condition became more serious and he was brought to his home here He grew worse and was taken to the McLean asylum asy-lum at Somerville He succumbed rapidly l rapid-ly When he could not recognize the members of the family it was decided by the physicians that nothing could be done for him and yesterday he was conveyed con-veyed home once more He began to sink rapidly and at 6 oclock last evening even-ing it was evident the end was fast app ap-p Mrs Banks with the generals gen-erals daughter Maud and a niece Miss Syble Banks were at the bedside constantly con-stantly until death At midnight the general became unconscious and slowly lost strength until death The end came very quietly On the announcement of Banks death the flags on public bulldogs bulld-ogs were displayed at half mast The funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon after-noon On Monday afternoon the body will be escorted to Ashbury Temple by a detail of the G A R where It will lie in state on Monday evening |
