| Show AFTER THE INSURANCE The Agricultural Building a Heap of Ruins Chicago Feb 24 Another incendiary incen-diary fire occurred at the Worlds fairgrounds fair-grounds this morning and as a result the magnificent agricultural building pronounced by many good judges the most sumptuous and beautiful of the Worlds fair structures is practi cally a heap of ruins The flames were first discovered in the great dome A large number of fire engines were at once summoned to the scene but the inflammable nature of the structure caused the firs to spread with great rapidity under the influence of a stiff breeze and i was about all the department could do to prevent its spread to the other structures struc-tures This they succeeded in doing but the agricultural building was ruined The famous prize statue of Diana by Sculptor St Gaudens which ornamented ornament-ed the dome of the building during the fair was fortunately removed some days ago and was set up in the Columbian Colum-bian museum AVIman Gets Bail w New York Feb 24Erastus Wiman was released from custody at noon Charles Deere of Moline I having deposited twentyfive onethousanddol lar pills in the Office of the city chamberlain cham-berlain this being the amount of his bail Recorder Smythe signed the bond Deere is the fatherinlaw of Wimans son William now lying in a precarious condition at his home on Staten Island Is-land landWimans Wimans son was much worse today out He is not expected to live the day outAfter outAfer his release on bail Wiman accompanied ac-companied by Deere hastened to his home on Staten Island Wiman will be called on to plead to an Indictment for next Monday at 11 forgery Monday 1 oclock The following letter in relation to the charges against Wiman was sent out by his counsel General Benjamin F Tracy New York Feb 241 have seen for the first time this morning the indictment indict-ment against Wiman and have learned the history of the case and the facts histor Upon which the indictments were founded foun-ded I am entirely satisfied after such examination that Wiman has committed no crime and unless I am greatly misinformed the trial will develop de-velop a state of facts which will show that Wiman is not only not a criminal crimi-nal but has done nothing that can seriously reflect upon his honor or integrity in-tegrity a a man I am not in the habit hab-it of trying my cases In the newspapers newspa-pers but in view of the extent to which this course has been taken by Wi mans enemies and certain supposed friends I think it only just to Him that I should make this statement BENJAMIN F TRACY A Feud About a Fence Manafalia Ala Feb 24 William Norton and James Breckinridge prominent farmers had a feud about a fence line They met on the street last night and began a duel to death with pistols Norton fell mortally wounded and Breckinridge cqt the throat of the dying man from ear to ear and fled hotly pursued Seeing that he would be overtaken he cut his own throat dying at once Made a Dig Haul Vienna Feb 24Adolf Ferles chief i cashier of the Austrian state department depart-ment has absconded His defalcations i amount to 102000 florins |
