| Show PUKE GO UP I Dearer living is the immediate result oi the McKiXLEr bill In nearly every line of manufactured goods there has been a prompt and decisive advance in price Table linens sheetings towelings shirt F ings etc among linen goods have already l gone up from 10 to 12 per cent Notwithstanding Notwith-standing all the protection on linen goo sin s-in the past there is but one firm engaged in making them in this country and this firra under date of Oct 7 submits new price lists with an advance of 10 per cent on their goods Raising the duty on linseed oil has given the Linseed Oil trust a protection of over SO per cent which the trust has been quick to realize upon by an advance in price to the American consumers Itdeserves to be stated also that the trust has not raised the wages of its employees DAVID A WElLS states very clearly the facts con concerning the Linseed Oil trust Linseed oil sells in England for 34 cents a gallon I The McKiNLcr tariff imposes a duty of 32 cents a gallon and the Linseed Oil trust has raised the price since its enactment and is now demanding of American con J sumers from 60 to 63 cents a gallon When this trust was started in 1837 the price of linseed oil was about 3S cents per gallon I In December last it was 52 cents and now it is from GO to 63 cents The framers of I the McKiXLEY bill thought the trust was not sufflcently protected by a tariff that enabled en-abled it to blackmail the American consumer con-sumer to the tune of about IS cent a gallon so they increased the lawful blackmail to J about 30 cents Cottonseed oil whale oil croton oil white lead and the various coloring color-ing materials used in painting show a similar I I simi-lar increase The result will be that poor people will have to make one coat of paint suffice for house or barn where they form try had two |
