A Sad Misfortune James Gallagher employed as a switchman switch-man by the Union Pacific Railway company com-pany met with an accident yesterday morning that may prove fatal He belonged be-longed to the crew on engine No 1205 and was doing some switching in the depot yards About 815 oclock the engine was coming alone between Twentythird and twentyfourth streets when Gallagher jumped off for the purpose of going ahead to open up a switch As he came in front of locomotive his foot slipped on the frost and befora he could regain his feet be was under tho wheels The engine was stopped and the injured man taken out with his left leg cut off below the knee and the other in a condition that will necessji tate amputation A stretcher was pro ouced and the injured man taken to the Union Pacific hospital to be caret for Dr Perkins was called and decided not to amputate the other limb for the present pres-ent but thought if would be necessary to do so within a day or more Mr Gallagher is unmarried and has relatives rel-atives living in Pennsylvania At this writing he is resting as easy as could he expected
