city are t at work They claim to be finding many people who were here in i June when the government census was taken but who I were not enumerated and from this fact I r judge that the census uow being taken will show an increase over Uncle Sams census It will require a comparison of the names taken in June with those now being taken to determine whether or not those claim to have been missed were really enumerated It is believed that many transients who have since left the city were credited to Ogden by the government govern-ment census enumerators and if this shall prove to be true it is not likely that the present enumeration of the inhabitants will show a very marked increase over the former census The enumeration will pro bably be finished by the end of the present week Editor King of the Daily Union must certainly be a Christian At least he evi dently believes in the doctrine of If thino enemy offend theo forgive him Tho Liberal Lib-eral city administration has sat down upon him spat upon him and rubbed the saliva in hit him upon one cheek and generally let loose upon him the dogs of war yet he resents it not Rather does he turn the other cheek and invites the party bosses to administer another slap which they will be pretty sure to do Only a Christian with the patience of Job would submit to such indignities as have been heaped upon King by the crowd who claim to rule the Liberal party and dictate who shall and who shall not be favoredparticularly when he has it in his power to make some of them crawl into their holes and pull the holes in after them Unlike McDaniel King didnt even get the sop of justice of the peace The Monte Cristos held a meeting Monday Mon-day night to listen to the reading of the financial report of Colonel Harvey He detailed the treasurer handled about twentytwo thousand thous-and dollars and 54000 was handled by the citizens committee The expenses absorbed ab-sorbed the total amount in Mr Boyles hands and left the Rex order in debt which can be paid by realizing upon the assets o f the order It cannot be denied that there is much bitterness of feeling in the ranks of the Liberal party over the manner in which the convention was packed with pledged delegates Adverse comments are heard on every hand by men whose loyalty to the party has never been and cannot now be doubted Even the Commercial which is prepared to go the whole hog recog nizes the dissatisfaction which exists and administers taffy to the defeated candi dates and their triendb saying No disappointment dis-appointment should be allowed to influence any man or his friends and if the Commercial 8e Com-mercial judges these men who were knocked out by the ring correctly they will not be influenced by anything of the kind Disappointment comes to all men When more than one man aspires to do the same thing or to hold the same office all 1 but one must be disappointed But in tnis case the disappointed ones are men oi brains and sound judgment and imbued with the spirit of Liberalism so that the ticket agreed upon will be heartily and I unanimously supported When men are beaten by fair means if they themselves are fair men they will not kick but if i they are downed in an underhanded manner they are fully justified in asserting their independence |
