| Show The Uegatta at Dulutli DULUTH Minn July 22The amateur fouroared race declared off yesteaday by tho fouling of the Lurlines and Duluth crews was rowed this morning the Mm nesotas winning in 10 20 Duluth following close in 1035 and St Paul third The Winnipegs were out of the race from the start to the finish All the races in the afternoon took place on the West Superior course Just before the races a strong breeze made the water very rough The first t event the senior double scull racer was won by this Minnesotas one length ahead of thc LurJines wno were three Idnpths l ahead of the Winnipegs the Cat thus mid Cedar Rapids following Time of Ir the Minnesotas i53 f The senior singles had but two starters Corbott aud Pearson Cproett maintained I the lead from the beginning Pearson made a magnificent spurt on the last quarter but Coroett beat him by about I two and a half lengths Time first 1220 I second 123i e I The great four oared professional race in which the betting and pool selling had been lively for the past few days was the last event The five crews with their positions from the shore were as follows The Hanlans consisting of Hanlan Tccmor Hosmer and Wise the Ross consisting of Ross Harry I Vail T A Kennedy and D E Murphy I I the West Ends of Buffalo Gaudaurs t crow consisting McKay stroke Hamm I Gauduar and Tenyck and the Erics of Buffalo After the first half of the down I stretch tho Hanlan and Gauduar crews were the only ones really in the race the I others were merely followers in the merey folowers procession I pro-cession The Eries caught tho water first but the a Haitian crew soon forged ahead C followed closely by the Gauduar crew There never was seen a more exciting struggle than between those two crews The Hanlans turned first and pulled away on the homestretch with a stroke whichleft the Gaudaur crew behind a couple of lengths The latter were reserving their strength however and when the half mile buoy was reached spurted and recovered distance Then came the pull at the finish The Gaudaur crew crept slowly ahead of the Hanlan crew until they reached the finish about a length and a half ahead The Hanlan crew Erie and Ross came in a length behind but the Ross crew was a boat length behing the Erie The West Ends gave up the race half way back The time for the winner who captured the prize of 1200 was 1820 for the Hanlan crew lS2i for the Eries 1831 The fouroared junior race rowed over this morning will have to be rowed once int wi more because the St Pauls fouled the Winnipegs |
