| Show IDAHO REPUBLICANS T lie Convention to Select Delegates Dele-gates to Minneapolis W 111 be Held at Pocatello May 7 That to Nominate State Ollicera at Moscow September Sep-tember 8The Apportionment BOISE Idaho Fob 15Especial Tele g ram to THE HERALD Following close u pon the enthusiastic meeting of the Re p ublican state league came a meeting to d ay of the Republican committee The m embers assembled in the Senate chamber o f the capitol building and were called to o > rdor by Chairman Joseph Pinkham who s toted that the object of the meeting was to fi x the times and places of holding two im p ortant state conventions one to elect d elegates to the national convention a t Minneapolis June 7 the other t o nominate state officers He re f erred to the recent meeting of t he Republican league and said that I daho representatives were in touch with t heir brother representatives iu every s tate in the union Mr Pinkham said that a 11 representatives should join the league whenever possible Phil ORourke member from Shosnone C ounty it appeared had turned his proxy over to J L Burns and Burns had turned his proxy over to D P B Pride The committee on credentials reporded as mem hers for this meeting Ada John Lamp Boise C S Kingsley by J E Rounseville proxy Bingham W E Wheeler by C W ferryman proxy Bear Lake O Spend berg Cassia W Stokes by Frank Ramsay proxy Ouster J W Shoup by Frank Peon proxy Idaho J S Weiler by Frank Fenn proxy Kootena H M Gorgens Latah R H Barton Elmore J F Spraguo Logan W G Perkins by P1 C Hill by Senator Thomas McPhoe Owyhee S J Pritchard Washington T C Gallway Alturas P1 S Mack Shoshone hone Phil O1 Rourke by J L Borne by D P B Pride In the afternoon a lively debate occurred over the following resolution as offered by Frank Fenn Resolved That the Republican state committee of the state of Idaho welcome into the ranks of our party all lawabidins citizens of whatever race or creed whc believe in the principles of the Republican party who adhere to its cardinal doctrine that no man however bumble but is entitled enti-tled to the protection of the law nor so great or powerful but he must obey its mandates The objection to the resolution was that j t was useless as it is well known what the principles of the Republican party are However the resolution prevailed As predicted by your correspondent the committee fixed Pocatello as the place for holding the convention to elect delegates to the national convention with the date of 10 oclock a m of May 8 and the convention to nominate state officers at Moscow Latah county September Sth at noon The apportionment of delegates to each convention was fixed as follows Ada 13 Alturas 8 Boise 7 Bingham 11 Bear Lake 4 Cassia 4 Custer 5 Idaho 6 Kootenui S Latah 9 Elmore 5 Lrgan 8 Lemhi 5 Oneida 4 Owyhee 6 Washington 5 Shoshone Sho-shone 13 making a total of 125 A resolution prevailed extending the sympathy of the committee and through them that of the Republican party of Idaho to Willis Sweet our member of Congress in his hour of affliction with hopes of a speedy recovery At the evening session of the state committee com-mittee the date of the Pocatello convention conven-tion was changed from May Sth to May 7th as the former date was found to be Sunday Sun-day It was recommended that county conventions be called on thirty days notice no-tice and none later tnan twelve days before be-fore the time of the state convention Joseph Pinkham tendered his resignation resigna-tion of chairman of the state committee for the reasoa that it was deemed unadvisable unadvis-able to hold the position being United States marshal He thanked the members for the active support rendered him in the active conduct of the campaign Resolutions Resolu-tions complimentary to Mr Pinkhams able management of the work were passed W E Bomb the rising young lawyer of Boise a warm friend of Senators Shoup and Dubois was chosen to fill the vacancy Mr Borah has oratorical abilities of a high order is a splendid organizer and will reflect re-flect honor on any cause he may represent The committee adjourned |
