Show Hospital Administrator By TOM BUSSELBERG BOUNTIFUL A youthful youth-ful Oklahoma native with wide hospital expe.ience has been named as the new hospital administrator at Lakeview Hospital. LINDELL "LYNN" Carri-ger, Carri-ger, who hails from the small town of Konawa, Okla.. about 70 miles southeast of Oklahoma Oklaho-ma City, has been named to fill part-time employees. Speaking of his reception thus far he says. "1 certainly have been warmly welcomed by the medical staff and employees. em-ployees. "THEY SEEM all very qualified qual-ified and to be a pleasant group," he adds, noting his wife will join him as soon as housing can be arranged. And of the challenges ahead he says without hesitation, "My major challenge will be replacing the rather considerable consider-able shoes of William Moore." THE NAME of William P. Moore is alsmost synonymous with that of Lakeview and South Davis Community Hospital Hos-pital that preceded'it. The new division vice president came to Bountiful 20 years ago as an administrator. Recalling the changes since then he says from his new Bountiful office in the Wasatch Building, "It was a 40 bed and then we went to 80 and realized that was grossly inadequate." THAT LED to involvement with the county in formulating plans for hospitals in north and south ends. After three years of planning that included voter support of a construction bond election and support of county commissioners the ceiling came down on funding, he says. Thirty days before construction construc-tion w as to begin officials scurried scur-ried to such groups as HCA, an international hospital chain, to obtain possible assistance. That led to the current Lake-view Lake-view affiliation with the Nashville, Nash-ville, Tenn. based chain. THE MEDICAL .statt has grown from 12-15 to more than 50 currently, Mr. Moore adds, noting that over the decades salaries for nurses have jumped considerably from the $315 a month he recalls. In his new capacity Mr. Moore will not deal with any day-to-day Lakeview problems. prob-lems. That will be left to Mr. Carriger but instead Mr. Moore will be available "to assist, not mandate operating policy. We don't get into the day-to-day routine functions," func-tions," he says, emphasizing that is in harmony with HCA's policy of local autonomy or independence in-dependence for each facility. MR. MOORE will work closely with adminstrators of the region's nine HCA-owned hospitals, including Five in Utah. He will be assisted by Terry Bryant, who will oversee over-see financial policies, along with Shirley Tibbs, former the post held for 20 years by William Moore. Mr. Carriger officially took over those duties Jan. 5 while Mr. Moore has been promoted to divisional vice president for Division 7 western operations overseeing hospitals in Utah. Idaho. New Mexico and Arizona. Ari-zona. THE NEW administrator is new to Bountiful but says he looks forward to the opportunities opportu-nities for outdoor recreation and already says he enjoys the climate change from Nashville, Nashvil-le, Tenn., where he was an administrator at Parkview Hospital. Educationally, Mr. Carriger holds a bachelor of science degree de-gree in chemistry from Oklahoma Okla-homa City University and a health administration degree from the University of Colorado Colora-do Medical Center. Mr. Moore and his wife Shane have five children and live in Bountiful where he has served as a chamber of commerce com-merce president, on the Red Cross and other health-related boards and is a Sunday School teacher for his church. NOT A complete stranger to the West by any means, he met his wife, the former Diana Leavitt, while serving in the U.S. Air Force specializing in space surveillance at Azusa, Calif. One year of his service time was spent at the NOEAD space defense center near Colorado Col-orado Springs, Colo. His post-military post-military experience was gained at Denver's General Hospital and National Jewish Hospital. Some taste of the international interna-tional scene was gained, as well, when Mr. Carriger was stationed for a year at Dey arbi-kar, arbi-kar, Turkey. - : IN HIS imw post Mr. Carriger Carri-ger will oversee the four-year-, old 128-bed Hospital Corporation Corpora-tion of America hospital that boasts a staff of 525 full and ADMINISTRATOR Lakeview's new hospital administrated Lynn Carriger, right, reviews financial status with Assistant Administrator David Christiansen. |
