Show Republican Committee Meets With Elected Davis Officials Davis County Commissioners Commission-ers and Legislators met this week with Republican Party leaders and workers at meetings meet-ings held in Bountiful and Clearfield. Voter district chairmen, vice chairmen, and county delegates heard presentations pre-sentations by the elected officials offi-cials and responded with comments com-ments on county and state government gov-ernment operations. ONE MEETING featured a presentation on property reappraisal reap-praisal by representatives of the Legislative Analysist and the State Tax Commission. According to Kep. Chairman Chair-man Gene Peresich. the main purpose of the meetings was to promote interaction between elected officials and the public. Several officials took the opportunity to explain new legislation or administrative procedures and to discuss state and county budget problems. prob-lems. NEW IDEAS for economy in government were discussed. C ommissioners said they were considering converting to smaller cars, charging federally federal-ly mandated programs for county overhead costs, and stretching out purchases to maximize interest income. The commissioners pledged to use any savings from economizing econo-mizing to reduce taxes. Legil-sators Legil-sators suggested accelerating advanced student placement to overlap high school with college, trying to restore state responsibility for some programs prog-rams now federally controlled, and reducing expenditures for parts of social service and higher education. THE LEGISLATORS noted that the Governor's proposed budget is based on state tax increases of $32 million from elimination of property tax relief, re-lief, S34 million from property reappraisal, and $8 million state income tax increases based on a possible federal income in-come tax decrease. Audience response generally favored reducing re-ducing government expenditures. |
