| Show AMUSEMENTS A LOXO LANE The theatre was rather sparsely attended last evening when A Long Lane was presented by a New York company including C in-cluding Mr Scdiey Brown tIle author The play is of the oldfashioned Now Eng land sort framed on the lines of the Old I Homestead Hazel Kirkc and kindred plays of a domestic or rural turn and there are a good many bits of homely sweetness I pathos and interest in itthe sort of quali ties that amuse the masses who are not given to being over critical The play has soveralstrong situations and wins hearty applause from the galleries Downstairs Down-stairs it is apt to be called ratherlong drawn out The people are all moro than acceptable the two leading women Judith Bcrolde and Ethel Barrington being especially es-pecially good Mr Murray making a ragged hero and Mr Brown the author causing a good deal of merriment though not himself as natural a comedian as he might be Tho coloring of the piece is warm and rural and one sccntfof the old country lane almost al-most covered with foliage with a pole fence the bars down and a hock of sheep coming over them was especially real and taking The piece goes again tonight THE GAIETY COMPANY wound up its engagement at the Grand last evening to a very light gathering In the first place the show is not one of the dollar dol-lar and a half class for Salt Lake and had it been played at a dollar four nights was too much for it SOTHERN opens this evening in Lord Chumley He had an immense sale yesterday and his friends will be out in strong force to welcome wel-come him back to Salt Lake Maudie Adams also appears in the cast Chum ley is to be done at the matinee tomorrow tomor-row and the Highest Bidder closes the engagement in the evening |
