| Show TARIFF SCHEDULES The Republican Members of the Finance Committee HAVE ABOUT CONCLUDED THEIR Consideration of Them Allison is Making Most of tho Trouble The Wool Growers Demand More Protection WASHINGTON June 12Special telegram to TIE HERALDI The Republican members of the finance committee have nearly concluded their consideration of the tariff schedules and have only t settle some disputed points and pass upon the administrative features of the McKinley bill before reporting it to the Senate There have been many changes made but only a few of them are important There are reduo tions of about 5 per cent on most of the items of the earthen schedule and steel rails aro fixed at8U20 per ton The other changes In the metal schedule are not Important The wool schedule will come out of the committee com-mittee substantially unchanged although there has been some trouble over i Senator Sherman offered in committee tho schedule proposed by Mr Lawrence old man Harpster and three members of Congress imposing exorbitant ex-orbitant duties after june 3 1S02 but this was voted down Senator Allison seems to bo the most making trouble He Is more disposed to cut manufactured woolens than the raw wool and i ho gets anyone to go with him he may put the schedule hi bad shape for the manufacturers Some reductions have been made in the agricultural agri-cultural schedule but not enough to deprive it of its character as a tariff for buncombe only The sugar schedule has not yet been finally passed upon There is some question whether the revenue of the government will bear the reduction re-duction involved in the McKinley proposition of free sugar The Republicans hope to havo their bill ready on Monday or Tuesday |
