| Show Accident to Leo Mantle BUTTE Mont June i2Special telegram to THE HEIEALDI The explosion of a steam pipe In the Silver Bow Electric light works of thir city tonight came near costing Montana one ot her brightest and most popular young men The company hi question was but recently organized and the plant is still in process ot construction Tonight had been selected as the time for starting up the big engines and tht head men of the company were present to see it done Among them was Hon Lee Mantle ol this city the best known of the young politicians in this state and of national reputation through his nearly successful fight for the United States senatorship last fall When the steam from both the immense boilers was turned on tim pressure proved too great for the pipe connect lug them with the engines and an expansion joint which had not been properly fastened blew out Twenty feet of iron pipe was thrown across the building with great violence striking Mantle upon the head and knocking him insensible Fortunately no one else was in flooded room It was found that he had sustained sus-tained two frightful scalp wounds a severe contusion of the back and a long gash In the lightthigh It was impossible to determine tonight to-night what the result of his injuries would be butphyslcians say that unless injured internally inter-nally he will recover The building and machinery ma-chinery are badly wrecked entailing a loss of thousands of dollars to the company |
