Show IS CCEUE < DALENE The Most Important Strike Made in Years Probable Fnle of the Morning Shoe for 100000 to a Milwaukee Syndicate Mining Notes The most important strike made in the entire Cceur dAlene mining country during dur-ing the present year was that made in the Mammoth mine near Burke on Thursday the 4th About two weeks ago in a new tunnel that was being run a small vein of carbonate ore of a very high crude was struck which was thought to be the main ledge that the men have been running for sinca last September and which bad been encountered in an upper tunnel250 feet above the one then being run It was found necessary to nave better ventilation for the miners and Superintendent Wilson started an upraise to connect the two tunnels tun-nels He had run about thirty feet when a magnificent body of rich carbonate was en countered The new ledge has not yeti been prospected to its full width though it i is now known to be fully eight feet wide I and of the same character of ore as exists in the upper tunnel There is no doubt but that it is of great dimensions The I lead that was first struck proves now to bo only a stringer and toe work was being done entirely without the wall of the main I ledge The owners of this mine are District Dis-trict Attorney Charles W ONeill Hon i A L Scofield Richard Wilson Leonard I Bros all of this place and Walter McKay of Butte Mont They bavejust refused an offer of 45000 for the Mammoth This mine has been a heavy shipper for nearly a II year past though on account of the ex Uemely deep snow on the hills at the present pres-ent time no ore is being shipped until spring opens I THE MORNING SALE There is a clique at work trying to queer I the sale of the Morning mine to the Milwaukee Mil-waukee parties who have been negotiating I for it for nearly a year past Six wee sago s-ago the syndicate and Receiver Porter 1 agreed upon a price for the mine 400UOO i i and as soon as the news became general and the purchase of the mine became more than a possibility an old creditor of Warren War-ren Hussoy wrote the Milwaukee people that if they purchased the mine they purchased pur-chased it in connection with lawsuit for the writer said he was prepared to prove that Warren and not Charles Huosey was the real owner of this great mine in spite of the fact that the mine stood in the name of Charles Hussey on the records The Milwaukee syndicate eviaently pay no attention at-tention to the threat for their representative representa-tive arrived from Wallace today to finally close the deal and take possession of the property The new owners will do away with the Huson wire tramway connecting the mine and concentrator and in its stead will build about six miles of broad gauge railroad around the hill to transport the ore A 400ton concentrator will take the place of the 100ton mill that was built three years ago by Charles Hus sey A force of 500 men will be put to work on the road grade as soon as spring opens and it is expected that by the time snow flea next fall the mine and mine will be in thorough working shape The Morning Morn-ing is supposed to be without exception the best developed mine in the Cceur d Alene The ledge of shipping and concentrating concen-trating ore as far as prospecting work has shown it is an average of 13 feet wide 400 feet deep and it has been followed into the hill for 1200 feet Martin Curran an old Wood River and Utah miner has been superintendent sup-erintendent for the past four years and the now owners wo understand will employ em-ploy him in the same capacity whed he returns re-turns from San Francisco where he has been spending the winter WALLACE Idaho Feb 7 lSD2 |
