Show A Curious Case A curious suit has been pending before Commissioner Sprague for a couple of days past and is now near a close Some years ago Jacob Ri voir was a Mormon missionary at Turin Italy While there he came across Jeanvoux a work on the United States in which there was a chapter attacking the tenets and practices ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints It is charged that lllvoir went to a journalist I jour-nalist and publisher in Turin I named Alfred Andre and entered into an arrangement with him to write and publish a work refuting and contradicting the attack on the Mormons in Jeanvoux It is claimed by Andre that Rivoir agreed to pay for the work Subsequently in October 1880 both Rivoir and Andre came to this city when Andre it is claimed asked the former to comply with the alleged contract to furnish the means for the publication of the work Revoir refused to do so and hence a suit was planted by Andre for the recovery of money The case was referred to Commissioner Sprague for hearing and has occupied occu-pied two days Wednesday and Thursday The testimony is all in and the arguments which have I been commencedwere to be concluded conclu-ded 1 uesday CoiM M Kaighenand T C Griffiths Esq appear for the plaintiff and Woods Hoffman represent the defendant the queer proceeding |
