Show People, Politics & Policy car City birthday party spotlighted PI. Grove s an election year and the polls for the governor are not encouraging at all. Who knows, Ted Wilson might even visit the city. The last time he came he promised that the canal would be piped when the CUP went through Pleasant Grove. Maybe if he is governor he will pipe it then? Maybe he will want to pump the Great Salt Lake into Utah Lake? If he comes, we will ask him. Senator Hatch deserves a word of thanks but not before we thank the Coalition to Save Geneva led by Linda Chipman. That is the kind of booster club any team would want. I mean it was fourth quarter, fourth down, time for one more play, and 50 yards to go. The score wasn't that good either. Linda and the other supporters stayed in there and brought home a victory. My guess is that USX realized that the senator could use some good PR with the people in Utah County and saw the reduced price as a drop in the bucket compared to having a Democratic senator representing the state of Utah. Senator Hatch has done a good deal to benefit corporations cor-porations in America. Should liberal senators pass new taxes on big business, $15 million would seem like peanuts. You laugh about pumping water into Utah Lake from the Salt Lake. Let me say that some county commissioners who bought a big "boat" sure could have used a deeper lake to put it in. However, that would hve meant that Christensen Auto Sales would have to change to Christensen Boating Supplies and Steve Peterson In teriors would have been Lb houseboat interiors. Gran! r offic would go from logging to fc unlimited. Steve FrampB; West be on the water ski pafe ' hck Atwood would be selling wind, property. MARK BEZZANT Dancing and singing before a large crowd at the Pleasant Grove High School Stadium, young and old brought to a climax a very nice birthday celebration. From the early morning activities, which included a good breakfast, until the grand finale, people from near and far mingled and visited in what had to be as good a birthday party as any city our size could have. Mary West and all who were involved deserve a sincere vote of thanks and a bouquet of roses. We need people like that on the city council. The celebration also represented the kind of cooperation we need to have. The school cooperated with the evening program because cities cooperate with the schools. Earlier in the week Pleasant Grove City was called on to clean out a sewer line at American Fork High School. District personnel did all they could,' but were not equipped. By the time city personnel were called in, the sewer had backed up, flooding the woodshop area and some other areas in the school. In just minutes the Pleasant Grove operator and equipment had the problem taken care of and were on their way. A potentially dangerous situation was eliminated by cooperation. With cooperation, the people in Pleasant Grove were equally benefitted by using the school stadium. It would not hurt to tell you that the man who operated the truck and equipment from Pleasant Grove was as nice and professional as you could ask" for. He does need the city to get him a new hose for the truck. The hose used to clean the sewer must pack over a thousand pounds of pressure at times. Like a hound after a hare, that machine went almost 300 feet to find the blockage and dislodge it. You can't tell 1,400 students to wait forever! A scheduled part ofthe city birthday bir-thday party was a visit by our governor. It must be getting close to an election and the polls must be bad, otherwise I'm afraid the governor would have loved to come, but had other pressing affairs.
