For his service project, he collected aluminum cans to finance purchase of materials from which he made individual chalk boards for a kindergarten class, involving cutting, sanding and painting with two coats of chalkboard paint. A member of troop 844, he has served as patrol leader, den chief and scribe and earned ail 12 Blazer skill awards and 60 merit badges, his favorite being the sports badge. For his service project he handled publicity for the Silver Hills elementary school open house, including making a banner, posters, and flyers which he distributed to 650 homes in the area. The Goates youth holds the Faith in God. Arrow of Light and the Presidential Academic Fitness award. He was student body president at Jackling elementary and is presently attending Kenndy junior high where he has a 4.0 grade point average. The oldest of five children, he is the first Eagle in his family. BENNION. Jared Beckham, son and Barbara Beckham, received the Eagle Scout award at a recent court of honor. His grandfather, Reuben Jacobs, recipient of the Silver Beaver who has been active in scouting more than 50 years, traveled from Peoria, Illinois to be the guest speaker at the presentation. The youth earned 21 merit badges. For his service project he collected food for donation to the Salt Lake Food Bank. The Beckham lad recently received the award as most outstanding eighth grade boy at Bennion junior high, where he is also an honor student and plays saxophone in the wind ensemble and stage band. He also plays with the Granite Youth Symphony. His interests include boating, skiing, swimming and camping. of David . r Jason Hill Aaron Rupp TAYLORSVILLE. 'Aaron Rupp, son of Wally and Gloria Rupp, has received the Eagle Scout award. A member of troop 745, with his father as scoutmaster, he earned 75 merit badges, not once, but twice. I always went to my dads scout meetings and worked along with his scouts, even when I was only 8, Aaron explained. So, I had done all the work, but I wasnt old enough to get the badges. When he became old enough to officially become a Boy Scout, the lad did the work over again so he could truly earn the merit badges. For his service project, he painted 18 fire hydrants in his neighborhood. A seventh grade student at Eisenhower junior high, the lad enjoys drawing, basketball and hunting.
