Born S.-Verr.ier 3. 191. in Colonia D'.:! ' in. Chihuhua. Mexico. Mrs. Smith was a daughter of Mary Jane Millet Cox and the late Kaiah Cox Sr. Her parents left Mexico when she was about six weeks old anil returned to their home at St. George where her father died in 1S91. Mrs. Cox. faced with the problem of supporting sup-porting her children, moved to Springdalc and then to Washington, Washing-ton, where she found employment in the cotton factory. Here at Washington Effie Cox received her first schooling. After the factory fac-tory closed down the family moved to Cedar City where Effie completed a normal course at the B.A.C. November 30. 1910. she was married to Jacob Crawford of Springdale at St. George. To this union were bom two sons and two daughters. The Crawfords. who had made therr home at upper Springdale. which is now; a part of Zion Park, sold their holdings to the government and moved to Provo. Alwavs an active church member. mem-ber. Mrs. Smith has worked at different times as a teacher in the primary. Sunday school, relief re-lief society and genealogy associations. associa-tions. Besides her husband and mother she is survived bv her children: Mrs. Mary C. Hoffman, Earl Crawford, Ralph Crawford, of Eugene, Ore. and Mrs. Ruth C. Pcarce, of Porterville, Calif. Also the following brothers and sisters: Isaiah Cox Jr, Henderson Cox, Warren Cox. Edward I. Cox, Franklin L. Cox, of St. George; J. Joseph Cox. of Hurricane; Charles C. Cox, Cane Beds; Luther O. Cox, Meeker, Colo.; David J. Cox. Ogden; Mrs. Mary E. Lee and Mrs. Artimisha Black, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Sarah Stout, Iogan: Jediah Cox, Cedar City; Mrs. Winona Free. Indianapolis, Ind.. and Six grandchildren. |
